MoF Exhibits, Events, & Programs

Honoring Place, Memory & Shared Stories

This month at the Museum of Friends, we’re inviting you to take part in creative programs and a special opportunity to help shape a major upcoming exhibition. Whether you’re creating in the studio, walking in nature, or lending your voice to a collaborative community project, your participation makes the museum’s work possible.

Rooted in Place: Legacy Exhibit & Community Collaboration

Opening July 2026 | Museum of Friends

Rooted in Place is an intergenerational exhibit and public engagement initiative in the planning stages at MoF. This special project will honor 250 years of the United States, 150 years of Colorado, and 165 years of Huerfano County.

Through art, memory, and storytelling, we invite community members and visitors to:

  • Reflect on our shared past
  • Celebrate Huerfano County’s rich cultural heritage
  • Envision a more connected, vibrant future

We are inviting local and regional partners, neighbors, and friends to help shape this exhibition. Your stories, photographs, and keepsakes can become part of a lasting archive that future generations will learn from and cherish.

Together, we will:

  • Nurture civic life through empathy, truth, cultural pride, and shared responsibility
  • Elevate Huerfano County’s historical and cultural contributions to Southern Colorado
  • Showcase the Roof & Dick building and other landmark sites as hubs for civic revitalization
  • Digitize and preserve history for future generations and the state as a whole

📩 To learn how you can participate, click the button below or visit the Museum of Friends. Let’s work together to preserve the living histories that make Huerfano County unique.

Kenny Schneider’s evocative works remain on view in our 2nd floor Small Works Gallery through September 30th. While visiting, you can leave a personal note for Kenny in the exhibition’s guest book and browse the price list if you’d like to add your own Schneider original to your collection.

Beavers of the Huerfano by Brendt Berger

In the Made in Walsenburg Gift Shop, explore a selection of signed Brendt Berger prints, a vibrant extension of his Beavers of the Huerfano exhibition. You can also leave a note for Brendt in his exhibition guest book when you stop by.

Watch the Artist Talks — Before They’re Gone

Both Brendt Berger’s and Kenny Schneider’s artist talks are still available to view on the Museum of Friends Facebook page, but only for a limited time. They’ll disappear after one month, so don’t miss your chance to hear directly from the artists about their work and process.

Both exhibitions remain on view through September 30th. Plus, visit our 2nd floor galleries to explore decades of creative vision and storytelling.
