Club Meeting Featuring Russ Jones, District 6400 Foundation

March 11, 2026

The meeting was opened by Nancy Darga, who led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Mike Ladwig gave the prayer. Thirteen members were present, which included PDG Russ Jones and his wife, Barb, along with Drew Buatti from the Livonia (Noon) club. Nancy led us in Happy Birthday sung to Tom Martin, followed by Nancy singing Stolla in Polish. Happy Bucks, led by Sharon Pommerville, included Tammy Bonnifield saying she’s going to live to 100 because she’s eating sardines, and Pat Zucal’s daughter calling at 7 am with a medical problem. The day ended well for the Zucal family. The problem was with daughters pace maker that could be fixed by DR in ER..the family needed to catch up on sleep after that adventure. Nancy gave us a history refresher of the event that happened in March 1932 on the bridge. “March On” 5 auto workers were shot on the bridge, but because of this rebellion, the workers now have a 5-day work week, and better work conditions. Nancy suggested that the park being established at each end of the bridge would be a good place for a peace pole.

Silbey Prairie, the Rotary club in Browntown, is interested in working with us.

RYLA discussion on getting more students involved.

250th Anniversary. Interact Club students will help pass out copies of the Declaration to all visitors at the 250th anniversary at Greenmead.

Nancy introduced our speaker, Past District Governor Russ Jones, who spoke to us about The Rotary Foundation.

His club decided to work on clean water. They chose the second poorest country, Honduras. Money given to the Rotary Foundation has a bigger impact on projects. The project needs to be based on what the people need and want.

Rotary can even make a payment plan to help you give.

Rotary also has grant-writing seminars and volunteers who will give clubs more information and hands-on help.

The meeting ended with a joke from Greg Greene.
