July 2019
Dear Climate Friend,

You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution is a bromide we’ve heard many times during our lifetimes. When it comes to carbon emissions, we’ve unwittingly been part of the problem during most of our lifetimes. By virtue of joining Elders Climate Action and taking other actions to reduce our personal carbon footprints, we’ve committed to become part of the solution.

As was probably the case for many of you, I became a dedicated climate hawk when I watched Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth . Since then, my personal journey has included a five-year stint as a Sierra Club activist and a five-year stint as a volunteer for SkepticalScience.com. Last fall, I decided to embark on another excellent adventure to facilitate the creation of an ECA chapter in South Carolina.

After working through some personal matters and delving into how ECA is organized and functions, I recently began in earnest to recruit friends and acquaintances to ECA. ( A journey of 1000 miles, begins with the first step .) When I recruit new members to ECA, one of the first things I will ask them to do is to talk-up ECA with family members and friends. I encourage you to do the same as you celebrate the 4 th of July holiday with your family and friends.

As the urgency of Climate Action becomes more apparent, a number of marches, rallies and protests are popping up all over the country. Elders, parents and children are coming together to demand action on climate change.

If you have never attended a march, protest or rally we encourage you to get involved, safely and peacefully. We have put together a Tips for Marches, Rallies and Protests info sheet to help our members safely participate.

Elders Climate Action does not encourage or promote acts of civil disobedience.
Have you seen the National Geographic Documentary
Paris to Pittsburg ?

From coastal cities to America’s heartland, Paris to Pittsburgh celebrates how Americans are demanding and developing real solutions in the face of climate change, not waiting for Washington to act.

As Elders, we can take the lead in our communities by  hosting a screening of Paris to Pittsburgh. It's a great way to get community members together and can help you begin to build an ECA action group or chapter.

Recently a group of ECA members in Ukiah, California held a showing of this free documentary and included a guest speaker talking about how to move towards a goal of zero waste. The event drew young and old and is helping to grow the action group in that community.
