PSD Connectivity - January 25, 2019
Be The One
Across the district, schools have honored the efforts of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during assemblies and special programs, classroom lessons, and school-wide activities. Kalles Junior High students conducted their annual march from campus to Pioneer Park where former Kalles teacher Dessie F. Evans shared an important message encouraging the audience to "be the one" in making a difference in one's school and world.

PSD Videographer Andy Lynch caught the message on camera and has produced a short video which captures the essence of this event. We hope you will take time to watch.

Ballou students perform at school board meeting

Student musicians from Ballou Junior High performed a percussion piece for the directors and audience. In coming weeks, they will perform the same piece at the Valley Region Solo & Ensemble Contest.

Students earning a Varsity Letter in Volunteer Service were also honored by the directors.

CTE provides great opportunities

Students at Emerald Ridge, Puyallup, and Rogers high schools are taking Nursing Assistant Certification courses and will graduate with their CNA certification. The course is one of many Career and Technical Education classes offered.

“Students can have the skills earlier and be better prepared to enter the workforce. We have a new focus on the industry or career connection. Honing in on what is needed that will help them not only get those jobs, but move up in careers,” said Director of Instructional Leadership Maija Thiel.

Construction update: Four new schools set to open this fall

Thanks to community support for Puyallup students, Firgrove, Northwood, and Sunrise elementary schools are being rebuilt on site, and the new Dessie F. Evans Elementary is under construction. They will open in fall 2019.

Hunt Elementary opened 12 additional classrooms last fall, and Pope Elementary will be expanded and renovated by September 2020.
