Colds, Flu, COVID, or something else?
With more people back on campus, UHS is seeing lots of people with respiratory symptoms. Based on testing, most do NOT have COVID, however, it can be hard to tell. UHS has developed a HOW-TO guide to help students quickly figure out what is going on, and if they need to go in for care. Learn more >

TIP: Don't wait for an appointment, testing for strep throat and STIs can be self-booked on eTang. Get your cold and flu over-the-counter products at the UHS Pharmacy.

Below are reminders about how to prevent getting colds and the flu:

  • Wash your hands frequently - Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching shared objects/surfaces/face - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and sharing objects (cups, utensils, etc). The flu virus spreads from coughing the virus out into the air and from touching surfaces with your hands.
  • Cover your cough - Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing/sneezing. Dispose of tissue, and wash your hands afterward.
  • Be good to yourself! - Drink water, avoid alcohol, sleep, exercise, and eat healthy.
  • Manage stress - Stress can lower your body’s ability to fend off colds and the flu.
