Fatema could not be defined by one word or expression. She would often spend her time actively involved in the Muslim Student Association, pulling together brightly colored ensembles that matched her headscarf and attending the speeches at Gaston Hall at Georgetown University. All agreed that she was just beginning to live her life and showed no sign of slowing down. She was more than just a friend to many at Georgetown; those who knew her best said she was like an older sister in many ways. Fatema’s time at the Elms will be cherished by all who knew her. Her smile was contagious!

Deborah’s parents raised her to believe that “girls can do anything.” One person can significantly change the course of a childhood disease. With the expansion of epilepsy centers in the top hospitals, teaching the pediatric neurologists of tomorrow or dedicating a professional career to making a difference in the lives of children who have epilepsy has become her passion. She has made it her mission to ensure that all children with epilepsy receive an early, accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment so they can live their best lives. When not working, Deborah enjoys volunteering as a swim coach with the Special Olympics and as a doctor at epilepsy camps. She currently serves as the Director of Epilepsy Programs at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
