Building bridges through unity: Memorial and Stratford unite for special needs students

In an inspiring display of unity and inclusion, Memorial and Stratford High Schools put aside their long-standing rivalry to host a groundbreaking Unified football game, aimed at fostering a sense of belonging among special needs students. The event, part of the Special Olympics' Unified Sports program, showcased athletes with and without intellectual disabilities competing side by side, proving that when we’re at our best, we're all on the same team.

Spearheaded by students with personal connections to the cause, the game not only brought two schools together but also spotlighted the importance of acceptance and camaraderie.

“We are excited to honor an incredible group of students who exemplify what it means to uphold SBISD’s Core Characteristics of a T-2-4 Ready Graduate,” said SBISD Superintendent Jennifer Blaine. “Character Without Question is a great time to celebrate not just the student, but their families and school community for supporting them. We are delighted to see how these students continue to watch these students grow, learn and thrive!”
