Weekly News from Zion and our Ministries Under the Cross: Evergreen Academy & Nina's Place

August 2, 2023

This year, we are embracing this message for our community. Those who helped assemble the backpack tags will recognize this design; and, as we look forward to blessing our Evergreen Academy teachers and students and teachers in our church family, we want everyone to hear it. In addition to being words of encouragement, they are also a reminder for us to be ambassadors of love and kindness, and to value every person just as they are, created in God's image.

Reminder: Back to School Block Party on Saturday

If you're available to volunteer, please wear any Zion shirt you have, and come between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex to distribute glue sticks, backpack tags, and Smarties candy!

Good Shepherd in Boca Raton

Our ministry partners at Good Shepherd are planning to host their first Oktoberfest since COVID, and we are invited to attend!

If there are any Zion community members who would love to assist in the planning and preparation, there are opportunities to serve in every aspect of the event, from publicity to raffles, food and drink to the clean-up crew. To sign up, add your name to the sign-up sheets on Sunday or contact Cantor Kurt Schmidt.

This Sunday: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

In Sunday's first reading God invites all who are hungry or thirsty to receive food and drink without cost. Jesus feeds the hungry multitude and reveals the abundance of God. At the eucharistic table we remember all who are hungry or poor in our world today. As we share the bread of life, we are sent forth to give ourselves away as bread for the hungry.
