Mystery of God

From the Unity.org website, an excerpt from the article by Rev Margo Ford:

We often say God is life, God is love, beauty, and goodness, and we see evidence of that in so much of what we encounter in the world. Often in a state of meditative silence, we may feel God's presence as the life that infills us, the love that we are.

The good that God is may seem easy to understand until we encounter something that does not fit the pattern of our closely held beliefs. It may be then that we see through our spiritual lens dimly. How do we explain many of the events in our lives and in the world, especially those not welcome?
While we trust that our life is eternal, we don't know exactly what happens when we lay down our human bodies and our souls are freed. Do we return to the Presence as individualized souls or sink into the whole? Do we reincarnate as humans or something else? Could we experience life in another galaxy or even another universe? If so, do we have a choice about when, where, and how we take form again?

There are many unknowable things in this life. As we allow room for the unknown and unknowable, we also allow our faith and our glimpses of "what is" to be enlarged through our spiritual practices of prayer and meditation.
When our attention is on gaining a more complete understanding of who we are as individualized expressions of God, we come to have a deeper understanding of God and our oneness in God-all the while accepting that what we know at any given moment is all we need to know.
Questions to Consider:
  • How can I use my spiritual lens to deepen my experience of God?
  • How can I be comfortable with the unknown and unknowable?
  • How would I help someone make peace with that which is unknowable?

What will 2020 be like?  Are you open to the mystery of the unknowable? We begin by being present to today.   Rev Joy

Spiritual Intelligence starts tonight!

If you didn't register and want to participate, email revjoy@rcn.com

According to author Cindy Wigglesworth, Spiritual Intelligence is the ability to behave with wisdom and compassion while maintaining inner and outer peace regardless of the situation.  In her new book, SQ21: The Twenty-One Skills of Spiritual Intelligence, Cindy helps us understand how spiritual intelligence is analogous to such concepts as IQ and emotional intelligence (EQ). Using clear, practical language she defines the 21 skills that comprise spiritual intelligence and in doing so, teaches you the steps to begin developing your own spiritual intelligence.

In our 5 week course, we will explore what the 21 Skills are, how to develop them and the practical applications of each skill set.  Don't worry about the weather, the class will take place online on Zoom!
Because the materials will go out via email, you MUST BE REGISTERED TO PARTICIPATE!

Love offerings may be made at ULV's website, DONATE,
or checks mailed or left on Sunday.  Please put SQ21 in the memo section of checks and please send an email to unitylv@rcn.com to identify online donations as SQ21 donations.

The book is available through Amazon.  If you use AmazonSmile and designate ULV as the charity of choice, ULV benefits from book orders.

Just like IQ and Emotional Intelligence, Spiritual Intelligence encompasses life skills that benefit every aspect of life.  Join us Wednesday evenings at 7pm, January 8th through February 5th.

Spend a Sunday with YOUTH

Our Youth are looking for an adult willing to spend the second Sunday of the month exploring spirituality with them. Are you that adult?

Lessons and materials are provided.  A sense of wonder and open heart are deeply appreciated by our youth. If Spirit is calling you to support the next generation of Unity, contact Sunset Horon or Rev Joy.

Background checks are required and can be provided through the church.

Every Dragon Has Its Magic

Sunday, January 26, 2020
Winter Workshop after Service

We are all on our own "Hero's Journey" according to Joseph Campbell.  Part of our journey is to encounter challenges and overcome them.

In the Harry Potter books and other stories of fantasy, the hero must first learn what magic the dragon possesses before the dragon can be mastered and subdued. Our challenges can appear as daunting as dragons sometimes but do we ever look for their magic?

Join Reverend Joy for a playfully serious exploration of our dragons, their magic and the power of taming our dragons and using their magic.  The workshop will be after service for about 1.5 hours.  Love offering will cover the cost of materials.  Registration is helpful to make sure we have enough materials.  Sign-up downstairs or email revjoy@rcn.com

New Prosperity Affirmations!

In keeping with our practice of changing up our prosperity affirmations so they are fresh in our minds, we'll begin 2020 with new affirmations.

Individual Offering Blessing: The activity of Spirit, through me, blesses and multiplies all that I am, all that I have, all that I give and all that I receive!

Collected Offering Blessing: There is so much more to life than what we can see and touch.  We give thanks for the work of Spirit through these gifts, through our lives and through this ministry!
