Back to School Tips for You!

Academy of Pediatrics; cmcreynolds@mcaap.org; Mass PTA Health, Safety and Wellness Committee

The new school year is right around the corner and for some children it may have already begun!

The American Academy of Pediatrics has created a list of Back-to-School Tips that can help your kids to

have a happy, safe and productive year.

Being up-to-date on recommended immunizations is important for your child’s overall health and can protect them against severe illness and missed school days. In addition to immunizations required for school, influenza vaccines are available and are recommended for children 6 months of age and older.

If you are unsure whether your child’s immunizations are up-to-date, or if you have not scheduled a

back-to-school physical, contact your provider to schedule an appointment. In addition to ensuring that your child is up to date on vaccines, your provider also may perform hearing and vision screenings;

check blood pressure, vital signs, and developmental milestones; and complete routine lab tests.

At that appointment you can talk with your child’s provider if you have questions about vaccines and other

health-related issues
