From our President . . .

Consider…how badly you felt as a child on the playground when you were one of the last ones picked for the team. Or, did you stop to notice the faces of the ones who were left unclaimed? Maybe you even heard name-calling. Did you see the children whose gifts were not welcome? All of us from time to time had tears that were not seen, pain that was not noticed, times that we felt invisible. I know I did.

When Jesus walked among us, He became the one rejected and abandoned. He was even betrayed by his closest friends, we are told. He was able to show us a model for what to do when people (when we, when anyone) is excluded or rejected. We can read in the Bible stories for exactly what he did. He flipped the script for the whole world to see plainly what to do.

Jesus gathered His sheep who are the rejected ones close to Him. He held them close. Close enough to hear His heart beat. He holds us close enough now to hear His heart beating to assure us that we are not alone. He calls us to remind one another, especially those who feel lost, rejected, or marginalized for any reason, that He loves each one of us. We of United Women in Faith can be His hands, His feet, His heart beat, His kindness in this broken world. We must not give up now.

Call the others to come and help us. We are all needed to give food, shelter, clothing and the loving kindness wherever it is needed to those who feel they have not been picked for the team. Tell them, show them, “Oh, yes!” They have been picked! Tell them so! They will see the love and kindness in your eyes and will be so glad. Consider this in the name of the risen Christ. You will be glad!

Love,

A Praise & Paint Sisterhood Celebration was hosted March 28 in conjunction with Women's History Month by UWF St. Luke Community UMC. The self-care and spiritual renewal experience helped women express their painting creativity on canvas, engage in fun games, and share stories about women who inspired them.

The celebration was coordinated by Bridgette Gibson (treasurer pictured on the left) and Selena Stewart-Alexander (Chair, Committee on Nominations, on the right).

Hey, friends…Let’s wear our UMW and UWF pins! We want to grow, it’s one way to be recognized, even in the grocery store for who we are. Aren’t we proud of it? Wear that beautiful pin that someone gave to honor you and say thank you! It is beautiful and gives you a chance to tell someone about our missions.

Let us know what you are doing - a photograph and caption, a short article about your service and witness. Contact your newsletter editor Phyllis Cummins.

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
