Congratulations to Shaena and Ava Gilliard, Winners of the Harbor One Business Contest!

Shaena, owner of Healthy Minds Education Community Center, recently won a $10,000 prize for the Harbor One Business Contest with her daughter Ava. Shaena has a wonderful vision and spirit to make a difference in the lives of families living and working near the Brockton Fair Grounds, and with her award she plans to buy a fence so the kids can play outside and a van so she can pick up kids and also take them on field trips. Because of her compassion for those who are working overtime to make ends meet or don't know how to obtain vouchers, she will be helping not just the child but the whole family. How exciting for the Brockton community, and congratulations to these two!
This is also exciting for me because I am her business coach. Her win feels personal to me, there's so much joy in her success. I helped her clarify her pitch and provided some guidance and she did the work and a fabulous job on her slides and pitch. I am so proud of her and the way she has persevered through many struggles to achieve her goals.

"Do not dwell in the past,
do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~ Buddha

"I have great respect for the past. If you don't know where you've come from, you don't know where you're going. I have respect for the past, but I'm a person of the moment. I'm here, and I do my best to be completely centered at the place I'm at, then I go forward to the next place."
~ Maya Angelou

"If you want the present to be different from the past, study the past." ~ Baruch Spinoza

You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone. Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it. You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space." ~ Johnny Cash
Rafiki: "It doesn't matter, it's in the past."
Adult Simba: "Yeah, but it still hurts."
Rafiki: "Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it."
~ Lion King

We need to deal with our past pain to let go of it. Otherwise the pain just rears its ugly head one way or another; showing up in the worst places... in anxiety attacks and quick judgements.

Be at peace. Face it; mourn it; to forgive.

You may never understand, but don't let the story someone else wrote be yours. Be the hero of your own story. ~ Jacquie
