Be The One READY

The NW Workforce Development Council has found that regional labor shortages will be critical over the next 5 years.  One reason - limited meaningful "first job" opportunities for young people.

Starting early 2018 students from LHS will have the opportunity to participate in Be The One READY, an internship program that allows students to acquire new skills and gain valuable experience by serving in the marketplace.

2016-2017 By The Numbers

The national average for retention of mentors year-over-year is 55%. We are excited to report that our Be The One mentor retention averages 82%.

This is due in large part to the efforts of our Coordinators, their matching successes and the training our Mentors receive. Why are students requesting a mentor in the first place?  We'll give you a hint. The #1 reason has nothing to do with homework help.

2016-2017 Coordinator's Report

At the end of the year our Mentor Coordinators prepared reports highlighting what your support has accomplished. There were many touching and inspiring stories.  A couple quotes from students:
  • "I can talk to my mentor about anything - life issues, relationships, my future plans. He's awesome!"  LHS Sophomore
  • "I like talking to her about stuff and just hanging out. You can trust a mentor. Mentors don't judge."  LHS Freshman
You can read more about the outstanding results each of you have helped make happen. W e have much to look forward to during this new school year.

That's a wrap!

Students and mentors finished off the 2016-2017 year with a boat cruise around Bellingham Bay. This was a wonderful time of Celebration and Recognition for all involved. We are thankful for a donor's designated gift and all of the helpers who made this special recognition possible.
