Wrapping up our Celebration of 125 Years of Helping Families Help Themselves

As part of our ongoing series for our 125th birthday this year, Santa Maria has been sharing memories from program participants, volunteers, staff and Board members. We conclude our series this month with two stories - one from long-time Board members, Julieta Simms and Tony Simms-Howell and one from the great-great-niece of our co-founders, Sisters Blandina and Justina Segale, Lisa Stagge Schall!

Reflections from Former Board Members, Julieta Simms and Tony Simms-Howell

Julieta Simms and Tony Simms-Howell served a combined 18 consecutive years on Santa Maria’s Board of Directors. The married couple, immigrants from the Republic of Panama, wanted to support an organization that provides opportunities that improve quality of life for families as well as the Hispanic community. Santa Maria is honored that they chose to support us all of these years.

S. Blandina and S. Justina's Great-Great-Niece Shares Memories of Santa Maria's Co-Founders

Lisa Stagge Schall is the great-great-niece of Santa Maria Community Services' co-founders, S. Blandina and S. Justina Segale, who were both Sisters of Charity and biological sisters. In honor of our 125th birthday this year, she shared memories that her mother and aunt shared with her about their great-aunts. Lisa's Aunt Rita was the last member of the Segale family to see S. Blandina before her death in 1941.
