Project Overview and Benefits:

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers beach renourishment project continues in the vicinity of Mid Beach Park (46 Street) and Allison Park (64 Street). In addition, staging for the beach renourishment project in the vicinity of 53 Street is estimated to begin September 12. 



Continental Heavy Civil (CHC) has been awarded the contract to complete this project. Beach renourishment projects protect against hurricane storm surges, rising sea levels and widens our beaches. The city is working closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and residents to ensure the smooth operation of the project.

What's Happening:

The U.S. Army Corps has begun to permanently reopen sections of the beach south of Allison Park (64 Street) to the public. The beach renourishment operation has moved north of Allison Park and a transportation corridor was created from Allison Park to 69 Street to assist trucks delivering sand to the northern portion of the segment (see map).

The corridor will allow for sections of the beach to be opened as they are completed. To ensure public safety, the beach access entrances from 64 to 69 street will be barricaded and closed to the public during construction. The public will be able to access opened areas of the beach through the entrance at 65 Street behind the MB Hotel, as well as through the entrances from 60 to 63 Street.

Please comply with all posted safety markers and with the instructions of the construction crew on site. While sections of the beach will be closed to the public as construction takes place, beachgoers can still reach the water in nearby sections, and concessionaires can operate on the east (ocean side) of the transportation corridor.

The beach renourishment continues at Mid Beach Park (46 Street) as sand is delivered and placed in the southern segment of the project. The beach will continue to be closed off in 500-foot sections and re-opened once sand placement is completed and finalized. The U.S. Army Corps has begun to permanently re-open sections of the beach from 43 to 45 Street to the public.

To ensure public safety, we strongly remind all beachgoers, vendors, and concession operators to refrain from blocking the restricted and clearly marked transportation corridor south of Mid Beach Park. Please comply with all posted safety markers and instructions of the construction crew on site. While sections under construction will be closed to the public, beachgoers can sreach the water in nearby sections, and concessionaires can operate on the east (ocean side) of the transportation corridor.

The contractor is expected to begin its staging operations on September 12 in the southern portion of the 53 Street parking lot. While the staging area will be inaccessible to the public, the rest of the parking lot will remain open to the public. Mobilization of trucks and sand placement is estimated to begin in October. This segment will consist of sand placement beginning at 50 Street and ending at 56 Street. Beachfront concession operations in this area will be notified when their equipment will need to be removed from the beach.

What to Expect

• To ensure public safety, beach access entrances from 64 Street to 69 Street, will be closed due to construction;
• The 65 Street entrance will remain open allowing public access to the re-opened areas of the beach.
• Work in the staging areas may occur from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Work on the beach may commence at 7 a.m. or sunrise (whichever is later) and conclude at 7 p.m. or sunset (whichever is earlier). The contractor will work weekdays and weekends as needed.
• Staging for a new segment of the beach renourishment project is estimated to begin September 12 at the Miami Beach Parking Lot on 53 Street. Beachfront concession operations in this area will be notified of when to remove their equipment from the beach in the near future.
• Moderate levels of construction noise can be expected during the day.
• Construction equipment, machinery and workers will be present in the work zone.
• Sections of the beach undergoing active construction will be closed to ensure public safety. 
• No parking restrictions will be in place at Allison Park and Mid Beach Park.
• Lifeguard towers will be temporarily relocated to allow for sand placement.
