Police and Schools Identify Persons Responsible for Threats

December 14, 2022

Dear Beachwood High School and Middle School Parents/Guardians:

Through the collaboration of Beachwood Police Officer C.J. Piro and middle school Principal Tony Srithai, the persons responsible for sending threatening messages to several of our high school and middle school students through Instagram over the past month have been identified. Both are minors and will face legal and school consequences for their actions. The police determined through this investigation that there was never any threat of imminent harm to Beachwood students or staff. However, the minors’ actions caused significant fear for many in our community, and Beachwood Schools will not tolerate threatening behavior of any kind.

This is a good opportunity to remind your children, who have channels to communicate with others through their phones and social media platforms at all times of day, of the importance of reporting threatening and inappropriate messages and content to an adult as soon as possible. Violent acts are rarely committed without some forewarning, and your children are often our best sources of information to help keep the entire community safe. Urge your children to talk to you, to any adult at school, or to contact the police department if they ever receive or see threatening and inappropriate messages.

Many thanks to Officer Piro, Principal Srithai, and all the other members of the Beachwood Police Department and school staff whose diligence and persistence closed this case and provides for our safety at school and around Beachwood each and every day.

Thank you,

Dr. Robert P. Hardis
