"What We Learn About Love from Women in Rock"
With Andy Hogg & Carleton Sheppard

This is our annual summer rock n' roll service. We will be following a Disorder of Service. There will not be any announcements. There won't be any Joys and Concerns, just joys. There are lyrics to the songs for you to learn more about the women in rock. You are strongly encouraged to lip sync to the songs or sing along.
Move your body. This is rock n' roll.

~ Listening Circles ~

In response to the concerns expressed at the Congregational Meeting on June 3, 2018, the Board and the Building Team have organized three Listening Circles where members can express their concerns and indicate how these concerns can be included in Beacon's goals. The designated dates for the Listening Circles are:
  • June 24, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm following Sunday Service
  • July 9, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
  • July 12, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The suggested limit of reach group is ten so that all can share their concerns. The purpose is not to resolve the issues, but to allow for expression. You can sign up for the July sessions after the meeting on June 24 or call Lynda Dorweiler, (792) 790-0423.

Pride in the Pines - Beacon Booth
Saturday, June 23, 2018
Thanks to all who have signed up! Our Booth Volunteers call has been successful; we have our booth staffed for the day. However, we can always use additional support. If you would like to volunteer time at the Beacon Booth, email Rev. Kevin at to be added to the roster. Beacon participates annually in this community event. Join with Rev. Kevin and our amazing volunteers as we share our support for the sexual orientation/gender identity communities of Northern Arizona. This is always a fun and festive way for Beacon to affirm our welcoming and open congregation for all.
~ Reminder from the Beacon Treasurer ~

Please complete payment of your FY '18 pledge by July 2, 2018.  Thank you very much!

Fast action supports immigrants dropped off in Phoenix for a 1-4 day bus trip!  With encouragement from SJA in our June 10 meeting, Dorothy Rissel and Roseanne Fulcher organized and advertised collection of travel-size food items, water and hygiene supplies for adults and children released from ICE detention. Shortages of these life-saving resources had devolved into an emergency, so Dorothy and Roseanne went to work!

In less than a week, they collected goods last Sunday at Beacon and worked with Keep Flagstaff Together to foster more opportunities for donations at two additional locations later this week. Thank you, Beacon folks, for your generous contributions!

The next step? On Friday, June 22, a truckload of these vital travel items will be delivered to the lead volunteer in the valley for distribution to immigrants on their way to stay with family members elsewhere in the U.S.

Did you know? In the spring of 2013, Beacon UU Congregation voted unanimously to "support families of undocumented immigrants," the first of our faith community's social justice public stances. During their time in Phoenix each winter, our two bilingual heroes meet immigrants to help with distribution of supplies and offer encouragement to adults and children delivered by ICE to the Phoenix bus station for their respective bus trips to yet another strange place.

In deep gratitude to you, Dorothy and Roseanne, for your passionate commitment to undocumented immigrants and their families!

~ Special Event: Yoga Immersion, Week of July 9th ~

Five Day Yoga Immersion
At Beacon and begins July 9

When I began weekly yoga at Beacon two summers ago it launched with a week of yoga immersion. I'm happy to report that this series returns in a few weeks. The sessions are geared toward beginners, with intermediate moments and options. Even if you are a more advanced yogi, it's gratifying to return to the basics of yoga to improve your practice overall. All are welcome. Donations are requested for the days you attend, with half of proceeds supporting Beacon. Participants will need to sign a health waiver/release, if you  have not done so already. Please plan to add this to your summer!

The details:
  • Week of July 9-13 - Monday through Friday, 10am - Noon
  • Come as many days as you wish, 2-3 days are a suggested minimum
  • Beginning yoga, with options offered for intermediate level practice
  • Alignment cues throughout
  • Includes yoga philosophy based on the 8 Limbs of Classical yoga
  • 90 mins of postures: reclined, seated, kneeling, standing
  • 30 mins of meditation, discussion
  • Make new yoga friends!
The daily sessions were well attended when previously offered. A full room! The wider Beacon congregation is encouraged to attend, and feel free to invite your friends. I am the primary instructor, but others may be invited for portions of classes, because there are many great yoga teachers to learn from in our town. Children ages 10 and up are also welcome, if accompanied by a parent.

I look forward to seeing you! Any questions? Please email me.

Bill shared greetings from Skip and Andrea from Maine. Bob attended the Bourdain reunion and visited them during his 60 days on the road.
Andy shared the gift of gratitude: Fifteen years after his father left his body, Andy is feeling the pride of being a father. He shared the pride he has in his daughter, stepdaughter, and son-in-law.
