~ Office Notice ~

Staff will be unavailable throughout the day Tuesday, May 8, during the Arizona UU cluster meeting in Chandler. The rest of the week will be typical office hours.

Office Manager Caleb Alexander's typical office hours have been cancelled this week as he provides activities for daycare during the Teachers' Strike with Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. He is still responsive over email and will return to office hours next week.
~ Religious Exploration ~

PreK-Grade 4 -  Our May theme is Beloved Community. We will hear the story "What Bees Do At Home." This session focuses on the family home through an investigation of bees and their homes. The activities explore the idea of home as a specific, physical place that plays a role in the lives of bees. Children will discover commonalities shared by the homes of bees, the homes of other animals, and our family homes.

Please check out the preparation activities in our  Google Group for grades 3 & 4  if you would like! These are some suggestions of things you can do this week to get ready for our lesson on Sunday. Activities are appropriate for younger children as well.

Grades 5-8 -  Older children are encouraged to stay in the service this coming Sunday. Our high school youth group has prepared a special service in which they are the leaders.  Please join us! Let me know if you have any questions.

Democracy and Public Engagement
Monday, May 7 at 7:00 pm
Beacon UU, 510 N Leroux St

Are you wondering what you can do to strengthen democracy in our times? Do you want to talk
with others about how ordinary people can make a difference in public life? Join us for  The Yes Men Fix the World at Beacon! This event is free and open to the public! Click for the flyer!

The Yes Men are culture-jamming activists who practice the art of spoofing in order to
call out undemocratic and dehumanizing policies. Using humor and satire, they perform large- scale, media-savvy stunts to wake people up to the craziness at work in our lives.

The SJA Film Series is co-sponsored by Beacon Social Justice Allies (SJA) and The Flagstaff Reading Group. The final film, Freedom Riders, will be shown at Beacon Monday, June 4.

More for your calendar: Regular SJA Meeting,  Sunday, May 20, after service. Members, friends, and  visitors are always welcome!

Peace and Peace-Making: On Monday night, May 21, the Flagstaff Friends Meeting
(Quakers) is hosting a conversation on Peace and Peace-Making. Nadine Hoover is an
innovator in creating cultures of peace in some of the world's most difficult and conflictual situations.  Click here for the poster and please join the discussion.
