"Holiday Giving in a Heating World"
Linda Ochi
Is it time to change our holiday giving in the age of global warming? What would that look like? Is it donating to charities in the name of friends and families, making homemade gifts, or giving other non-material gifts? We hope you will join us as we wrestle with answers to holiday giving in a heating world.

Joys and Concerns
From Sunday, October 20, 2019

Gus - Expressed sorrow that is a lot of despair in the world; it's not all jazz and happiness.
Andy H. - Shared that a day with his grandson wore him out, " I wanted to be alone"; grandson said, " Can I be alone with you?"
Maryann - Shared that sadly, Paul's work on Rio de Flag is not going well.
Nancy P. - Joy that her friend came to Beacon.
Spotlight this Week!

Trick or Treat for Charity
Sunday, October 27th, following the Worship Service.
Everyone is invited to empty their loose change jars and bring that money to the Sunday service on the 27th. The kids and youth will trick or treat for your loose change after the service.  The money raised goes to help the Flagstaff Family Food Center, which helps feed the hungry in Flagstaff and promotes the well being of children through their children's literacy program.

The kids, youth, and any Halloween loving adults are heartily invited to come dressed in costumes!

REI Building Project Update

Important Date: Nov 3 after the service: Celebration of our new spaces!

Still waiting for our final inspection, which now looks like it will be next week.

A special thank you to the following:  To Norm Lowe, for all the time and effort he put in to plan and build us some wonderful office furniture for our new office. It is beautiful and very strong, with a hidden steel framework. He also did a matching shelf and countertop. We are very, very grateful for this gift!

To Kevin and Joanne Parkes, for their generous donation of over 500 square feet of sandstone flagstones. These will be put to good use as a large section of our backyard. This is saving us a bundle. Now all we need is some strong backs to put them to use when we finish the backyard next spring!

October  & November Share the Plate Partner

For October and November, Beacon UU is sharing the plate with Flagstaff Family Food Center. Serving around 63,000 daily meals per year in their location on N. Second Street, the Center also provides a children's reading room, delivers to the Flagstaff Shelter Services an evening meal for those who might be staying the night, and provides Back Door and Mobile Sack Lunches. They have a food rescue program from local grocery stores and distribute food no longer good for human consumption to local farms and ranches, so there is zero waste.

Undesignated contributions in this month's offerings above $350 will be presented to the Share The Plate partner. Nominations for 501c3 agencies can be made through a form located at the top of the stairs in the CAC folder, or contact Office@beaconuu.com
