"Listening for Our Song"
With Rev. Kevin Lawson

We do not arrive into this journey of living fully formed, nor fully knowledgeable
of what our melody might become. Rev. Kevin reflects upon the aspects of
how we might find our own song, to share in the chorus of life.

~ Beacon Building Project Update  ~

Things are continuing to move along as we prepare to demolish the cottage and move the utilities. Part of our plan included having a discussion with the neighbors, to let them know what will be happening. In doing so, we discovered that our next door neighbor's sewer line runs across our property to the cottage and alley. So yesterday we had someone come out and run a sensor through it and mark the location. It will make the cottage demolition a little more interesting, but now that we know it is there we can deal with it.

With the cottage demolition looming, we will need to clear out the cottage soon. We will schedule a new "freecycle" day on Oct 21, and put anything left over on the curb for large item pick up on Oct 22.

~ Beacon Directory Update  ~

Contact information for Beacon members and friends is located online in the Beacon Directory. Access to the directory is limited to members and friends who have registered on the Beacon website and have been verified as a member or a friend by the website administrator.

The administrator uses the Beacon Directory to verify members and friends. Classic "Catch 22", right? Not really. New members and friends are added to the directory through the Beacon office by the Congregational Vitality Team. If you are a member or friend of Beacon who has registered on the Beacon website and has not gotten access to the directory, it may be that you are not listed in the directory. Please contact for assistance.

~ Fall Chalice Circles ~

Touchstones Chalice Circles are designed to meet our needs for belonging (intimacy) and meaning (ultimacy) by building friendships and providing opportunities to ponder life's questions, small and large, with others who share the common values of our UU Principles. The Chalice Circle experience enriches our community as we speak from the heart and listen deeply to one another in a safe and sacred environment of acceptance and caring.

~ Religious Exploration ~

On Sunday we will kick off Circle of Trees, a multi-generational program that is comprised of eight workshops. This curriculum will focus on our deep connection with trees, nature, and all of earth's living creatures.  The program uses trees as an entry point to understand and connect with life on earth. Across many cultures, trees are recognized as a symbol for life on earth-for example, the biblical Tree of Life. Even young children understand trees as sustainers of life, fundamental engines of life on earth as we know it. Trees create and purify the air we breathe. They house and provide resources for myriad creatures, including humans. They bring us peace, joy, and delight.

Update: OWL (Our Whole Lives) Class coming this winter and spring!
Due to our training being rescheduled, we will look to January to begin this wonderful class! This curriculum for the K-1st or 5 to 7 year old class provides developmentally appropriate information to support parents in educating children about birth, babies, bodies, relationships and families. Some of the goals of this class are to strengthen and support each child's sense of self and self-esteem, to help children appreciate their bodies as good and beautiful, private and special, and to help children gain understanding and accurate information about human sexuality, reproduction, and gender identification.  If you are interested contact Mary Poor by email or by phone, or (928) 699-8266.

Applesauce cups or fruit cups

SJA will deliver items collected to Somos America (We Are America, Facebook link) when we gather in Surprise on October 27. For more information, please click her for a flyer on What Humanitarian Aid Groups Do.
