SCHOOL CLOSURES

Lake Washington School District is committed to supporting our children and community through these unprecedented times. On Thursday 3/12/20, Governor Inslee announced that  all schools will need to close until April 24 . This extends our original March 27 closure date by nearly an additional month. Below are updates regarding nutrition, supervision, activities, trips, and educational services during this time period.

Student Meals
  • At this time the district is able to prepare lunches for LWSD students throughout the extended closure.
  • Meals must be ordered between 2:00 p.m. the previous day and 8:00 a.m. the day of the pick up.
  • There are vegetarian and non-vegetarian options for meals.
  • Student meal accounts will be charged according to the student's eligibility status.
  • Students must be present in order to receive the meal.
  • Meals will be distributed at the six of middle schools where our base kitchens are:
    • Finn Hill Middle School
    • Inglewood Middle School
    • Kamiakin Middle School
    • Redmond Middle School
    • Rose Hill Middle School
    • Timberline Middle School
  • Meals can be picked up between 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • We are working on an option for breakfasts and will announce details next week.
  • We are working on the option to have meals delivered to students who cannot get to the middle school distribution sites.

Pantry Packs

  • Pantry Packs recipients can find updates to the weekend food pack program at www.lwsf.org/pantrypacks during the school closure.
Childcare
  • We are currently working on the option of providing some childcare options at no cost, to families who are in the medical field or who are first responders.
  • We have created a survey to determine how many families may need this service throughout the closure that is available on this webpage:
Learning Experience
  • We are planning for non-graded, educational opportunities for students during the closure at home.
  • The district is working on obtaining and distributing laptops and wifi hot spots for the students in our district who do not have these options at home. Here is a survey being used to help determine the need for technology equipment in our community:
  • Teachers are learning how to best use our existing online learning platforms like PowerSchool Learning and OneNote for these opportunities.
Athletics and Activities
  • All athletics and activities, including practices and competitions, are canceled or postponed for the duration of the school closure.  
Field Trips
  • All District sponsored international travel will be canceled for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.
  • All District sponsored domestic travel, overnight and single-day trips, will be canceled for the duration of the school closure.
Building and Field Use
  • All building and field use by external groups is canceled through the duration of the school closure.

Bugle Article Submissions Welcome
  
The Beagle Bugle welcomes article submissions from students and parents .  Student journalists may submit articles about current events, students opinion-editorials and poems or short stories.  Parents may submit articles about PTA events and school related topics. 

Any article that is unrelated to PTA or Rockwell must be approved by the Lake Washington School District, and may be submitted to the Peach Jar E-flyer system.  The Lake Washington School District website has more information on the submission and approval process.

Short pieces will be edited for inclusion in the Bugle, longer pieces will be posted on the website with a link in the Bugle.  The Deadline for submissions for the next weekly Bugle is the preceding Thursday.  The Bugle Staff reserves the right to be selective regarding the materials that are publicized.
