HALLOWEEN PARADE
Thursday, October 31 @ 2:20pm

The Rockwell Halloween parade tradition continues!

This year's parade will be on Thursday, October 31, at 2:20 PM. As always, please let us know if your child will not be participating in the Halloween parade, so we may plan a fun, alternate activity.

All students are welcome to participate in the parade and to bring their costumes to school for the event. All costumes must follow regular school dress rules and should not be too violent or scary (please remember we have students as young as 5 years old at our school). No weapons are allowed at school, real or pretend, at any time. Please remember that students should be able to put their costumes on over regular clothes, and that teachers and staff will not be able to assist students in changing.

Click here to see a detailed parade map (click here for the inside parade route, in the event of inclement weather).

Here's to a fun parade on the 31st!

ANNUAL BEAGLE CONTRIBUTION
URGENT!!! We Need Your Help! This is our last chance!

We are currently at 85%  of our annual goal of raising  $36,000 for our school. If you are new to Rockwell, have not donated yet for the year or still need to get your corporate matching in, there is still time and we need  your help!

If we don't get fully funded by the end of October, many awesome programs will get cut! We are in the critical time to decide what we will give to our children this year. Our kids are at risk to loose STEM Night, Science Van and the Musical!!!

WHAT IS ABC - Annual Beagle Contribution?

ABC is Rockwell's primary PTA fundraiser. The funds raised are allocated to provide Rockwell students and families with resources and services. These services enrich and maximize the education of students during the school year.  Rockwell PTA depends solely on ABC to fund the annual operations budget and the many programs we provide for our students at Rockwell including:
  • Academic Enrichment activities
  • Grade Level Grants
  • After School Events
Help us by donating now.

CORPORATE MATCHING!!! (Yes, we love the FREE money!)

If you have already contributed, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Also, please  don't forget the opportunity to increase your donation through corporate matching.

Please check if your company offers matching. Only 5-10 minutes  of your time filling the company form could raise our funds ! Click here to learn more about Corporate Matching.

We appreciate your support!

BOX TOPS CONTEST
October 21-28 (EXTENDED!)

Hi families, we have decided to extend our Box Top coupon collection contest until Monday the 28th. The class with the most unexpired coupons will win a Pizza Party, thanks to donations from Papa Johns and QFC. The best grade level will win a 10 minute recess. Please turn in all non-expired coupons that have both the product code and expiration date.

The Box Tops program is changing how they collect their coupons and are moving away from the physical coupon. They have introduced their own app where you can take a picture of your whole grocery receipt for points to our school. As of now, we will still be collecting physical coupons until they stop printing them all together. During this transition period, it's possible to collect two points for each product - the physical coupon clipped and turned as well as from scanning our receipts! The money that comes from turning these in goes straight to the PTA to fund various projects.

After Monday, you can start another collection of Box Tops for the Spring collection. I keep a ziplock baggie on my fridge for ongoing collections, and the app scans will always update  our school's collection year round.

Thanks,
Box Tops Chair

TIME TO TURN IN YOUR SCHOOLPOOL CALENDARS!

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR CALENDAR TO HELP US EARN $5 FROM THE CITY OF REDMOND.

Only one day of walking, biking, carpooling or riding the school bus for the month of October is needed to count towards earning money for our school.

Submit signed calendars to receive a cookie coupon for your student(s), and  $5 for our PTA!   This is FREE MONEY for our kids, with up to $1500 (if at least 300 Rockwell families submit their calendar) allotted for our PTSA.

Since we are short in ABC this year, we need a majority of families to turn in your calendar so send it in today!   The deadline for turn-in is this  Friday, Nov 1st !  All money earned will go directly to school enrichment programs and classroom grants.

If you have lost your calendar, extras are in the Rockwell Main Office or email me at  [email protected] and I will make sure your child's teacher gets one to distribute to your child.

Thank you all for participating and help us raise PTA funds!

POKEMON/TRADING CARDS UPDATE

Hello Beagle Families,

Due to a recent series of friendship and recess issues, we are going to take a break from bringing personal Pokémon cards (and other trading cards) to school beginning on Monday the 28th.

I know many students enjoy playing with the cards, and I have purchased a set for students to use during library recess sessions. The guys and ladies have heard information about this change during morning announcements, and I will continue to share reminders over the next several days. If students do bring their cards to school, we will follow the guidelines on page 18 of our handbook (classroom reminders, then office support).

Thank you, everyone, and  please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great day, and I look forward to seeing you at school later this week!

Kind Regards,
-Mr. Clark

FALL PTA MEMBERSHIP CONTEST

Hello, Rockwell Families!

Membership is down a little bit this year.  Let's change that and help out a favorite teacher as well.

On November 21 , I will count the PTA members in each classroom.  The classroom with the most members will win two $49 Amazon gift cards for the teacher to buy classroom supplies.  In the case of a tie, I will randomly choose one teacher.  Winner will be announced on November 22 and in the Bugle.  So, if you have been meaning to join the PTA or meaning to update your PTA profile online to include your child's teacher, now is the time!

LUNCH ROOM VOLUNTEERS

The lunchroom classified staff sends out a BIG thank you to the parents who have volunteered during lunch. Melissa, Olga, Rochelle, Maria, Yang, Katie and Judy - you have been so helpful with the kids and cleaning up. We appreciate you!!

To the handful of parents who have joined your child for lunch, thank you! Your small act of kindness has a ripple effect to so many of the kids sharing your table. We invite more parents to the lunchroom.

An extra "shout out" to the 4th and 5th grade students who have volunteered in the lunchroom, too! We implemented a "lunchroom leader" program last year and it's encouraging to see the sign up sheet filled up with names of kids willing to help younger kids open go-gurts and thermos', wipe tables and sweep up.

If you have an hour to give, please sign up HERE for a shift or bring a sack lunch!

A NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR

October is both Disability Awareness Month and Bullying Prevention Month. At Rockwell, we will be promoting these themes by continuing our work with students on inclusion and empathy. Our approach is a positive one, teaching students the behaviors we want them to exhibit instead of just focusing on behaviors we want to extinguish. Teachers often use a technique in their classrooms called "narrating the positive" which means pointing out what others are doing well instead of misbehavior.  In this month's Home School Connection newsletter, you will find an article about how to use this strategy at home to promote desired behavior.

Other good reads in this month's newsletter include:
  • Information about how making mistakes are actually good for our children; mistakes help them grow and learn.
  • Suggestions for setting up a successful homework routine at home.
  • Tip for how to get more included with your child's education by partnering with the classroom teacher.
You can find these articles and more in October's newsletter  here.

Take care,

BEAGLE PLANTER BOXES

Hello Rockwell families and community members!

Is your family looking for a fun gardening project? Do you want to help keep Rockwell looking amazing?

Every year for Community Serve Day, our wonderful volunteers spruce up all of our planter boxes including minor repairs plus fresh soil and flowers just before school starts. We need your help in maintaining them and keeping them looking fresh, so we're looking for families to "adopt" a Beagle Box.  Commitment is roughly 3 months.

Responsibilities include:
  • Light trimming weeding, and pruning of existing foliage
  • Watering
  • Replacing soil (minimal) and flowers as needed (small budget is provided)
  • Anything else that strikes your fancy!
This could be a very satisfying way for your whole family to get their hands dirty:)

Sounds fun, right? If interested, please contact Elaine Bentzinger

ESSAYWSPTA ESSAY CONTEST

This statewide essay contest explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children - from the children's perspective. Every day children are exposed to a variety of people and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child decides to take. Whether it is someone that sparks an interest in a new topic, helps them work through a problem, shapes the kind of person they want to become by modeling behavior, simply listens to them, or any number of other actions, this is the platform for students to share their appreciation.

The application deadline is March 1.

You can learn more about the contest here.

YEARBOOK ORDERS!

If you didn't order your yearbook when you completed your First Day Packet online, you can do so by going to LifeTouch and using Yearbook ID # 4886520.

Also, we're still looking for a few more parents to help create the yearbook. Work from home on your schedule to organize all the wonderful photos we're getting! Please email Abigail Welborn ([email protected]) to volunteer.
