Attention 4th and 5th grade parents!
Registration for the Rockwell Musical continues through the 14th! We have had steady registration, but there are still openings for your young thespians! It is heartwarming to see so many students returning for a second year of fun! We are also excited to welcome students to their first ever theater experience! Details on registration itself are included in the registration packet which is now available online HERE. Printed copies are available in the office.
We have a couple of notes leading up to this year's musical:
- We are still in need of a 4th grade parent to work alongside and shadow this year's producers as a co-producer. Grab a friend and sign up together! This is how we ensure continuity from year to year, and it is a great learning opportunity. This also guarantees placement for your child in the musical (specific roles are determined by the theater company). Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested.
- In the spirit of over-communication, we want to draw your attention that our students will be performing the scene where Scar accuses Simba of Mufasa's death. Consider this when deciding whether your child should participate. This scene includes lines like the following:
- "It's your fault he's dead"
- "No! I'm not a murderer."
- "But here's my little secret. I killed Mufasa."
- "You don't deserve to live."
A few registration highlights all of which are included in the packet but deserve calling out:
- Scholarships are available for those with financial need.
- In order for a child to be eligible for participation, a parent/guardian is required to chaperone two rehearsals and serve on a committee.
- Registration submission will be by email, and will begin at 8am on Monday morning, Feb 3. Early submissions will not be accepted.
- Mandatory parent meeting is Feb 19. You may send a delegate. Details in the registration packet.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our producers, Katie and Karen.
Thank you for your interest and participation. We look forward to a great year for the musical!

A REMINDER ABOUT MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
For the safety of all students, all medications at school (prescription, over the counter, vitamins, cough drops) require a completed
authorization to administer medication form
. The form must be signed by a health care provider and a parent/guardian. Medication cannot be given without the completed form and parents/guardians must bring all medications to the health room. Students cannot bring in their own medication. All medication must be in the original prescription bottle, container or package.
Too Sick For School?
Is your child too sick for school? With cold and flu season upon us, please visit the following link to read the LWSD policy on when to keep your child home from school. Students who have had a fever, vomited, or had diarrhea must stay home until they are symptom free for 24 hours. Keeping children home when they are too sick for school protects other students and staff from potential illness.
The following are some tips to help prevent illness:
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home while sick and avoid close contact with others.
- Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash hands. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve. Afterward, wash your hands with soap and water.

LOOKING FOR ORCHESTRA PHOTOS
The Yearbook Team is looking for photos from the recent orchestra recitals. If you have any that you'd like to share, please email them to
Our school counselor, Mrs. Bauer, is starting a Changing Families small group for students whose parents are separated or divorced. This group will focus on the strengths of the student's family. Students will discuss different family structures and their feelings about their family circumstances. Students will work on identifying their feelings surrounding divorce and healthy ways of expressing those feelings. They will have the opportunity to find comfort in others with similar experience. We will use stories, role play, activities and games to work on these skills.
Groups will take place during the school day at a time mutually agreed upon by Mrs. Bauer and the students' teachers. Students will be grouped with other children of similar age. Groups will begin after mid-Winter break and continue for 4-8 weeks depending on the grade levels of the group.
If you are interested in having your child be part of a Changing Families small group, please contact Mrs. Bauer at

PHOTOS FOR THE YEARBOOK
SALMON IN THE CLASSROOM
The salmon eggs have arrived in the tank at Rockwell. If you are at school stop by and take a look. They are currently in the eyed egg stage and in a few weeks they will hatch and become alevins.
Then in February they will "swim up" or emerge from the gravel and become fry.
In early March the 4th grade students will begin to feed the fry. At that time we will need lots of parent volunteers to help supervise the feeding. Also if any 3rd grade parents would like to begin "training" to be the program chair(s) for next year it would be great. If you are interested in helping with either of these things contact

WSPTA ESSAY CONTEST
This statewide essay contest explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children - from the children's perspective. Every day children are exposed to a variety of people and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child decides to take. Whether it is someone that sparks an interest in a new topic, helps them work through a problem, shapes the kind of person they want to become by modeling behavior, simply listens to them, or any number of other actions, this is the platform for students to share their appreciation.
The application deadline is March 1.
You can learn more about the contest
If you didn't order your yearbook when you completed your First Day Packet online, you can do so by going to
and using Yearbook ID #
Also, we're still looking for a few more parents to help create the yearbook. Work from home on your schedule to organize all the wonderful photos we're getting! Please email Abigail Welborn (Abigail@DaughterOfLight.com) to volunteer.
