FIELD DAY RECAP

Thanks to the support of over 50 parent and community volunteers, every member of the Rockwell staff, and all the 5th grade classes (who volunteered to lead stations), Rockwell's 2019 Field Day was a smashing success!

It was a hot day--temps pushed into the 90's--but everywhere we looked we saw kids smiling, laughing, and running around having fun. Students played games, challenged themselves physically, and got joyfully wet and dirty. Popsicles were then enjoyed by all.

It was a fabulous day and it could not have happened without all of the wonderful volunteers. Please know you are appreciated.

Until next year,
Barbara and Nate Chinn
PTA Field Day Reps

LOST AND FOUND WILL BE DONATED JUNE 20!

Is your student missing any jackets, hats, lunchboxes, water bottles, etc.?

Our lost and found is overflowing with numerous items. Anything left in lost and found will be donated to charity on the afternoon of Thursday, June 20th.

Our lost and found is located just inside the front entrance of the school. Please check in the office for watches, earrings, and house keys, as we have several unclaimed items in the office too.

Thank you!

MATH CHALLENGE

We had a great year of Math Challenges! After the end of year assembly, students who have  completed 12-14 qualified challenges will receive a medal, and those who have completed 15  qualified challenges will receive a trophy.

These Math Challenges are difficult, so please  congratulate them for their hard work.

Thank you all for your continuing support!

A Math Challenge Tournament chair (or co-chairs) is needed for the 2019-2020 school year. The tournament is held one time each year, usually in late fall, that is separate from the periodic Math Challenges. If you are interested in keeping this tradition going, please consider volunteering. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

SBA RESULTS AVAILABLE ON JUNE 21

Each spring, Washington public school students in grades 3-8 and high school are tested in English language arts (ELA) and math, with exams called Smarted Balanced Assessments (SBA). Students in grades 5, 8, and high school are also tested in science, with an exam called the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

Individual scores for the SBA exams administered this past spring for ELA and math, are being delivered electronically from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). OSPI allows the District to share these score reports electronically in PDF format.

Downloadable score reports will be added in Skyward Family Access on June 21. In an effort to use resources effectively, paper reports will only be available by request in the fall.  Only SBA ELA and math scores will be available in June. Science scores will not be available until the fall after OSPI releases those scores.

Directions to access the reports:
  1. To access Lake Washington School District's Skyward portal, click on the Family Access link on the district website.
  2. Log in to Skyward Family Access with your username and password.
  3. Click on the Reports Cards- Portfolio tab.
More information about state testing can be found here.

We recently met with the school district to walkthrough the property and approve our project list for the day.  As with past years, we will be supporting our teachers and staff in the classroom, as well as working on outdoor projects.  While we will have all of our typical volunteer opportunities, given our current project list, we are in need of the following (reminders will be sent if you sign up  ):

  • Donation of materials to add a large planter box to the outdoor classroom
  • Donation of flowers for our six planter boxes
  • Someone with photography skills to take photos that can be used in digital media after the event.
  • Someone willing to work with our site lead helping to keep the classroom work on task and moving on the actual day of service
If this is you and you are interested in volunteering your time (or if you have questions), please contact  Elaine Bentzinger.

Registration is currently open, so register today!  (When you get to the list of schools, be sure to scroll to the LWSD section near the bottom of the page to select Rockwell as your school)

Looking to get creative this summer? Want to be a winner? Look Within!
