DR SUESS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Multi-lingual Read-a-long
Monday 3/4

Hello Beagle families,

The Rockwell Library is happy to announce our first annual Dr. Seuss Birthday Celebration Multilingual Read-Aloud. This event will be held on Monday March 4th, 2019 at the Rockwell Library.

We have been working hard to build a Multicultural World Languages collection in the library. Some of the acquisitions we have procured are various Dr. Seuss titles in languages other than English.

The plan is to have one volunteer reading these books in English and then another volunteer reading the same book in another language at the same time (taking turns by page). Our focus is on our students that can read in these languages and are willing to read in front of large groups. We are working with classroom teachers to get student volunteers for this fun activity.

In addition, we would love to have parent volunteers that would also be interested in reading some of these books in their home language for our students.

Here are the books/languages that we have so far:

Hebrew- Cat in the Hat
Mandarin- Dr. Seuss ABCs
There's a Wocket in my Pocket
                    Fox in Sox
                    The Foot Book
                    Yertle the Turtle (various stories)
Spanish- There's a Wocket in my Pocket
                 Are you My Mother

Being borrowed from KCLS:

Japanese- Oh the Places You'll Go
                   Horton Hears a Who

If you are interested in volunteering to read aloud, OR, if you own any Dr. Seuss Titles in other languages, we would love to borrow them!

Please feel free to contact Shelly Gordon at [email protected] with any questions or interest.

PTA MEN'S ESSAY CONTEST
Men Making a Difference
deadline is March 1

This statewide essay contest explores the important and varied contributions that men make in the lives and education of children - from the children's perspective.

All men involved in a child's life - fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers, step-fathers, mentors, neighbors, pastors, coaches, and friends - impact the children they care about. Research clearly shows that male involvement positively influences academic success at all levels of schooling - preschool through college. When male figures are involved with students' schooling, they enjoy school more and perform better in and out of school.

You can find out more about the contest (including guidelines and grade-level entry forms  here.

The application deadline is March 1st .

SPRING COFFEE
Thursday, March 7

Join other Beagle moms and dads in front of school (near the flagpole) on Thursday, March 7th right after morning drop off.

Come by for a muffin treat and some Starbucks as we slow down for a minute to commune with other Beagle moms and dads before we head off to start our day.

We hope some spring sunshine will join us too but, just in case, we will have a small tent canopy constructed to share some dry Beagle community time.

SBA TESTING
See dates below

This year's SBA (State Assessments in English Language Arts, Math, and Science) will take place on the following days:

Grade 3 - May 14-16 (ELA) and May 29-30 (Math)
Grade 4 - May 7-9 (ELA) and May 21-22 (Math)
Grade 5 - May 7-9 (ELA), May 21-22 (Math), May 23 (Science)

Please note these dates on your calendars and avoid making appointments or planning family trips on those days.

Also, there is nothing additional you need to do to prepare for these assessments at home, as teachers will guide students in preparations and practice sessions prior to the assessments. The assessments are one way to measure the growth students have made in their studies this academic year.
