BEAGLE BUGLE - ROCKWELL PTA AND SCHOOL NEWS
musical

Attention 4th and 5th grade parents!

The time has come!  Today we are releasing registration materials for this year's spring musical, The Lion King, Jr.  Details on registration itself are included in the registration packet which is now available online HERE.  Printed copies are available in the office.

We have a couple of notes leading up to this year's musical:
  • We are still in need of a 4th grade parent to work alongside and shadow this year's producers as a co-producer. Grab a friend and sign up together!  This is how we ensure continuity from year to year, and it is a great learning opportunity.  This also guarantees placement for your child in the musical (specific roles are determined by the theater company).  Email [email protected] if you are interested.
  • Any parent who signs up to be a committee chair by 5:00pm Thursday, January 30 will be guaranteed placement for your child in the musical (specific roles are determined by the theater company).  A list of committees are included in the registration materials (there are 9 available).  Email [email protected] if you are interested.
  • In the spirit of over-communication, we want to draw your attention that our students will be performing the scene where Scar accuses Simba of Mufasa's death.  Consider this when deciding whether your child should participate.  This scene includes lines like the following:
    • "It's your fault he's dead"
    • "No! I'm not a murderer."
    • "But here's my little secret.  I killed Mufasa."
    • "You don't deserve to live."
A few registration highlights all of which are included in the packet but deserve calling out:
  • Scholarships are available for those with financial need.
  • In order for a child to be eligible for participation, a parent/guardian is required to chaperone two rehearsals and serve on a committee.
  • Registration submission will be by email, and will begin at 8am on Monday morning, Feb 3.  Early submissions will not be accepted.
  • Mandatory parent meeting is Feb 20.  You may send a delegate.  Details in the registration packet.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our producers,  Katie and Karen.

Thank you for your interest and participation.  We look forward to a great year for the musical!

IS YOUR CHILD TOO SICK FOR SCHOOL?

While school attendance is important, so is the health of all students and staff. If your child experiences any of the following symptoms, please keep him/her at home or make appropriate child care arrangements: fever, vomiting, lice/scabies, diarrhea, chronic cough and/or runny nose, sore throat, rash, ear infection (with fever), or eye infection.

If he/she experiences any of these symptoms at school, the school nurse or office staff may ask you to pick your student up as soon as possible.  Read more about when to keep your child home from school  here.

STEAM NIGHT THANK YOU

STEAM night was a huge success. We had robots, catapults, math games, lego creations, piano playing, guitar strumming, video animation, constellations, gravity demonstrations, and much much more.

Kids of all ages from our school community (even younger and older siblings) joined for an evening packed with excitement and learning. The PTA would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents, teachers, students, and community members who volunteered their time to help at the event. We would also like to thank the generous vendors who volunteered their time, materials, and energy to make this such a memorable evening. Snapology (a local company owned and operated by two Rockwell parents) hosted four different stations. Bach to Rock (another Redmond business) brought their director, two instructors, and a plethora of musical instruments for the kids to explore. First Lego League hosted two tables, where they showcased their "Avocado Bots" team and their 2nd grade team of "Builder Bots."

Lastly, we'd like to extend a HUGE thank you to Mathnasium of Redmond. Not only did they host seven different stations at the event, they also covered the printing costs for advertisements, they designed the passport card, provided tremendous logistical help to the PTA's event coordinator, but they also donated ALL of the prizes for each attendee.

If you're interested in being part of the team who organizes next year's STEAM night, please email  [email protected].

USED BOOK DONATIONS

Hello Beagle Families,

Got some old, gently used books that you don't need? Rockwell Library is actively accepting donations for our annual Used Book Sale to be held in May, in conjunction with the Ice Cream Social. This event is always a big hit and proceeds go to buy new books for the library.

If you would like to donate, please bring your books (in boxes or bags) to the office.

Thanks for your support of our school library!

PHOTOS FOR THE YEARBOOK

If you have any photos from classroom or school events that you'd like to share with the yearbook team, please feel free to e-mail them to [email protected].

Thank you!
SALMON IN THE CLASSROOM

The salmon eggs have arrived in the tank at Rockwell. If you are at school stop by and take a look. They are currently in the eyed egg stage and in a few weeks they will hatch and become alevins.  Then in February they will "swim up" or emerge from the gravel and become fry.

In early March the 4th grade students will begin to feed the fry. At that time we will need lots of parent volunteers to help supervise the feeding. Also if any 3rd grade parents would like to begin "training" to be the program chair(s) for next year it would be great.  If you are interested in helping with either of these things contact  [email protected]   for information.

ESSAYWSPTA ESSAY CONTEST

This statewide essay contest explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children - from the children's perspective. Every day children are exposed to a variety of people and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child decides to take. Whether it is someone that sparks an interest in a new topic, helps them work through a problem, shapes the kind of person they want to become by modeling behavior, simply listens to them, or any number of other actions, this is the platform for students to share their appreciation.

The application deadline is March 1.

You can learn more about the contest here.

YEARBOOK ORDERS!

If you didn't order your yearbook when you completed your First Day Packet online, you can do so by going to LifeTouch and using Yearbook ID # 4886520.

Also, we're still looking for a few more parents to help create the yearbook. Work from home on your schedule to organize all the wonderful photos we're getting! Please email Abigail Welborn ([email protected]) to volunteer.
