FIFTH GRADE PARENT NIGHT
at Redmond Middle School
Tuesday, January 14

Dear Families of Future RMS Grizzlies,

On Tuesday, January 14th, Redmond Middle School will be hosting a family night for the families of all current 5th graders who will be attending RMS next year. This event starts at 6:30pm. This will be a great chance to see and tour Redmond Middle, meet the administration and counseling staff, and have questions answered. This evening is geared toward parents/guardians only. There will also be Spanish interpreters present at this event.

Our 5th grade students will be visiting Redmond Middle this spring for an orientation activity. The student leadership at RMS puts together a wonderful program that includes student led tours, an opportunity for 5th graders to ask RMS students questions, and fun games and trivia.  They will be able to meet the administration, counselors, and 6th grade teachers. More information will come later for this event.

We look forward to meeting you on January 14th.

Thank you!

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Hello, Norman Rockwell PTA members!

Membership cards, and the access to PTA discounts, went out via e-mail this Saturday.  It's been a bumpy year adapting to a new platform for the state PTA membership.

Knowing that the membership cards probably therefore did not go out without error, if you did not receive your card by email, please feel free to contact me at  membership@normanrockwellpta.org.  I will personally send you the codes to access pta discounts.

Also, if you still want to become a PTA member, we will welcome you! You can join anytime by contacting me or joining online on the PTA website.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing winter break. You will find this month's Home & School Connection newsletter here

As we are getting ready for January conferences, one article I want to highlight is about how to help your child set goals for themselves. Breaking a goal down into smaller tasks and frequently checking in on progress can help your child be successful in accomplishing their goal. Another great article is about limiting screen time and encouraging free play. The impacts of screen time and social media can be significant with our children. Rockwell PTA is providing an internet safety parent education event with expert Stefanie Thomas on January 16, 2020 at 7:00pm in the library. I hope to see you there!

STEAM
STEAM NIGHT
Thursday, January 23 @ RHS

Family STEAM Night relies very heavily on help from parent volunteers. Please consider volunteering for an hour to help at one of the booths. No experience or expertise is required.  Click here  to sign-up for a volunteer spot. If you know a middle or high school student who has a passion for STEAM (or who needs to fulfill community service hours for school) we would love to have their help as well. We also need a parent to help co-chair the event (this would require 2-3 hours of work prior to the event, and help running logistics the evening of the event). Please email  events@normanrockwellpta.org  to learn more about how you can help at STEAM Night.

After STEAM Night is over, feel free send any photos you'd like to share to yearbookphotos@normanrockwellpta.org

USED BOOK DONATIONS

Hello Beagle Families,

Got some old, gently used books that you don't need? Rockwell Library is actively accepting donations for our annual Used Book Sale to be held in May, in conjunction with the Ice Cream Social. This event is always a big hit and proceeds go to buy new books for the library.

If you would like to donate, please bring your books (in boxes or bags) to the office.

Thanks for your support of our school library!

ESSAYWSPTA ESSAY CONTEST

This statewide essay contest explores the important and varied influencers in the lives and education of children - from the children's perspective. Every day children are exposed to a variety of people and each one has an opportunity to influence the path a child decides to take. Whether it is someone that sparks an interest in a new topic, helps them work through a problem, shapes the kind of person they want to become by modeling behavior, simply listens to them, or any number of other actions, this is the platform for students to share their appreciation.

The application deadline is March 1.

You can learn more about the contest here.

YEARBOOK ORDERS!

If you didn't order your yearbook when you completed your First Day Packet online, you can do so by going to LifeTouch and using Yearbook ID # 4886520.

Also, we're still looking for a few more parents to help create the yearbook. Work from home on your schedule to organize all the wonderful photos we're getting! Please email Abigail Welborn (Abigail@DaughterOfLight.com) to volunteer.
