Rockwell Staff is All-Stars!

On Thursday March 30, we will be celebrating all Teacher and Staff Birthdays that fall between January and June.  If you are able to help out or drop off a food item, please sign up. You may drop off your food before school, in the office. All food needs to be delivered by 11 am.

Please include a recipe of your item, if homemade. Also, make sure all containers that you would like returned are labeled with your name.

Smart with Art- Registration opens at  10am on Monday, March 27
  • Mondays 3:10-4:10  Visual Arts: Me, Myself and ART, grades K-5  Class begins 4/17
  • Wednesdays - 3:10-4:10 Drawing, grades 1-5 (new class!) Class begins 4/19
  • Thursdays - 3:10-4:10 Create with Clay: Bite of Art, grades K-5  Class begins 4/20
Smart with Art is offering discounted tuition if ONE parent can commit to volunteering EVERY class during the session. Please see registration page for details.

LEGO ENGINEERING CLUB - Spring Session
 
We will have a Lego session for K-2 grades for spring. Do sign up your kids for the sessions and don't forget to sign up to be a parent volunteer.
 
Intro to STEM with LEGO® Materials, Spring (K - 2nd graders) from Apr 17 to Jun 12 on Mondays!

Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as Trains, Helicopters, Tree houses, and Beam Bridges. Then use special pieces to create your own unique design! New and returning students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. There is no prerequisite for this course.

Time: 3:15-4:45pm 
 
This class is being sponsored by Rockwell PTA. All classes need to have a parent volunteer without one the classes will be cancelled. All parents are required to sign up to volunteer. Please sign up to volunteer.

CODING WITH KIDS - SPRING SESSION
 
The spring coding session for the year for grades 1-5 begins soon.  Class details and registration links are available below. Registration will open up on THURSDAY, MARCH 30.

Parent volunteer sign ups will be sent out after registration is completed.

GAME DEVELOPMENT / BEGINNER

Do you play games and wonder how they are created? Would you like to build your own computer programs? Come learn how at the Coding with Kids Academy! In this fun after-school class, you will be introduced to the core concepts of computer programming, including loops, conditionals and variables. Using the Scratch development environment, you will learn how to create your own programs, such as simple games, animations, and interactive stories. With new projects each session, you will be able to express your creativity and advance as a coder! Our progressive curriculum will allow you to move to the next level after just 1-2 sessions.

GAME DEVELOPMENT / INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED

Do you love coding and want to learn more? Push your programming skills to the next level in our Intermediate/Advanced class! INTERMEDIATE students will build on their previous knowledge and be introduced to more advanced concepts, such as nested conditionals and functions with parameters. ADVANCED students will dive into complex concepts, such as game physics, arrays, and artificial intelligence. The Intermediate/Advanced coding class is recommended for kids who have already completed one or more sessions with the Coding with Kids Academy or have attended other Scratch coding classes (min. 15 hours of classes completed).

SPRING NOETIC MATH CONTEST
MONDAY, APRIL 17

Registration for the Spring NLMC is now open. The competition is open for all students in grade 2-5. This is a great contest to challenge your problem solving skills. Students will be given 20 problems to solve in 45 minutes. Top scorers and top 10% of all national participants in each grade level will get medals!

Join Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and our cast of amazing 4th and 5th grade characters for the PTA Spring Musical in April. Our students are hard at work rehearsing every week to bring you a fantastic show full of song, dance, and plenty of adventure!

WSPTA Reflections Award Winners 2016-2017 "What Is Your Story"

The State has published the results from the State Level of the competition. There were no winners from Norman Rockwell but there were many winners from LWSD. Five entries that received the Outstanding Interpretation Award advanced to the National level of the competition. Thanks to all the Rockwell Artists that participated this year, we hope you will be inspired to do it again and again!

USED BOOK SALE UPDATE

We're less than two months away from the 13 th Annual Rockwell Used Book Sale!  This is a great opportunity for you to do some "spring cleaning" while providing others with great reading bargains.  Please drop off your book donations to the library.  Remember, all proceeds go directly to the library for the purchase of new books!  Thanks again to those of you have already donated.  Feel free to email me with any questions at ddavenport@lwsd.org .

READER BOARD VOLUNTEER
 
Keep our community informed by changing out the reader boards at Rockwell.
  • Large Reader Board:  Approximately 1-3 times per month (takes about ½ hour each time)
  • Small Reader Board: Approximately once every two months
This volunteer position is perfect for someone with flexible daytime hours as the reader boards should be changed during school hours.

Easy to do after drop-off, before pick-up or immediately after school, or anytime that works for you.

Training provided. Can either start now or in the Fall.

Bugle Article Submissions Welcome
  
The Beagle Bugle welcomes article submissions from students and parents .  Student journalists may submit articles about current events, students opinion-editorials and poems or short stories.  Parents may submit articles about PTA events and school related topics. 

Any article that is unrelated to PTA or Rockwell must be approved by the Lake Washington School District, and may be submitted to the Peach Jar E-flyer system.  The Lake Washington School District website has more information on the submission and approval process.

Short pieces will be edited for inclusion in the Bugle, longer pieces will be posted on the website with a link in the Bugle.  The Deadline for submissions for the next weekly Bugle is the preceding Thursday.  The Bugle Staff reserves the right to be selective regarding the materials that are publicized.
