GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING: All Invited!
7pm Thursday, January 18th in the Library
Rockwell PTA is currently 400 members strong yet less than 10% attend the quarterly meetings.
While we appreciate your trust and support in running the business of PTA, we invite you to attend the General Membership Meetings to be part of the process, advocacy and parent education presentations.
ON THE AGENDA:
This meeting will include
two different parent education topics based on how parents can share power in partnership with teachers and students:
- New Writing Curriculum - Presented by Gena Thome, 2nd grade teacher/Member of LWSD Curriculum Development Team, will share information on how parents can support their child's writing at home. She will also provide insight on the workshop model of teaching writing.
- An Overview of Emotion Management: Helping your child handle those big, strong feelings. Presented by our school counselor, Mrs. Bauer. The presentation will provide tips on how to help your child recognize when they are having strong emotions and how to use a four-step process to help kids calm down. As an added feature, Mrs. Bauer will include ways for parents to model emotion management at home.
In addition to parent education:
- Principal Clark will provide a school update
- Teacher representatives will share highlights of grade level accomplishment
- The Treasurer has budget announcements
- Our Legislative Advocate has a motion to put forward regarding the upcoming Bond/Levy in February
- and so much more!
PTA meetings are not a social hour, there is a lot of business to attend to and we hope you can attend, too! Your voice and your votes matter.
JOIN US THIS THURSDAY NIGHT in the library at 7pm!

5th GRADE PROMOTION CHAIRS/TEAM NEEDED
Traditionally 4th grade (& below) parents
Each school year, a small committee of 4th grade parents and staff get together to plan for a wonderful end-of-year send-off to our fifth graders. The plans include creating special banners for each graduate (the committee simply helps create the blank template with each graduate's name on it), setting up the gym the day before graduation to post all of the banners and set up the stage, order the cake and waters, and help serve the cake and support the event on graduation day (typically from
). It's a very easy and fun way to help support a very special event for our fifth graders. If you are interested in serving as a chair person for this year's 5th grade promotion, please contact
(last year's 5th grade promotion chair), who can send you all of the specific information. Thanks!

E-Prep Tip from Our Emergency Prep Chair
Winter Storms and Car Kits
STAY OFF THE ROAD
Federal Highway Administration reports indicate that the risk of vehicular
accidents rises sharply in winter weather conditions. In an average year, there are
more than half a million vehicle crashes when the roads are snowy, slushy, or icy,
resulting in nearly 2,000 fatalities and 140,000 injuries. Driving is very dangerous
during and immediately after a winter storm. Plan to stay off the road when
authorities issue Advisories, Watches, and Warnings.
ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ONLY
If driving is necessary, ensure you have emergency supplies of food, water, warm
clothing, and a full tank of gas in case you are stuck in traffic or have an accident
and have to wait several hours for assistance. If possible, travel during the day
and do not travel alone. Stay on main roads and do not crowd the snowplows. Let
someone know your destination, route, and expected arrival time.
CAR EMERGENCY SUPPLY KIT
-mobile phone charger
-first aid kit
-full tank of gas
-boots, mittens, warm clothes
-ice scraper, snow brush
-snow traction mats and bags of sand
or cat litter for traction under tires
-tire chains or snow tires
