Class of 2024,

We hope you have had a great first few weeks of classes! We know there is a lot going on during the first month of college, but we hope you've started to settle into a routine.

On Monday, October 19th from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., stop by the South 40 near the Clocktower to pick up a midterm success kit! Students studying remotely will be mailed a midterm success kit later this month.

Fall 2020

  • November 26 & November 27: Thanksgiving Break
  • December 3: Course registration for Spring 2021
  • December 4: Last day to drop with W and change grading option to P/A/C
  • December 18: Last day of classes
  • December 21, 2020 - January 1, 2021: Winter Break (Part 1)
  • January 4 - January 10: Final exams occurring remotely
  • January 11 - January 22: Winter Break (Part 2)

Spring 2021

  • January 25: First day of classes
  • March 15 - March 19: Spring Break (No classes)
  • May 6: Last day of classes
  • May 7 - May 13: Final exams
Department Debrief - The Learning Center
Check out the following tips for remote and hybrid learning from The Learning Center:

  1. Create a Routine: Find an organization system that works for you, figure out when and how you are most productive. Plan ahead to schedule work and self-care.
  2. Choose a Study Space: Figure out what study environment works best for you. Consider noise level, comfort, distractions, access to study materials, etc.
  3. Engage with others: Make connections with your classmates. Go to instructor office hours, they know the course best. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

Bike Registration
If you have a bike on campus, we strongly recommend that you register your bike with WashU, display the registration shield on your bike, and ensure you use a Kyrptonite U-lock which is available for purchase at WUPD for $25. Register your bike through the WashU Bike Registration page.
What's Going On This Month
1) First 40

Throughout your first 40 days at WashU, there are many events that encourage you to meet your new peers and engage with other students and staff. Check out the First 40 WUGO page for events happening in October!


2) Internship and Job Career Fairs (October 1st - 29th)

The Internship and Job Career fairs provide WashU students with the opportunity to meet and interview with dozens of potential employers. All WashU students and alumni are invited to attend. Visit the Internship and Job Career Fair web page for more information.

3) Zoom Chat with Common Reading Book Author Cathy O’Neil (October 2nd from 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
A Zoom Chat with Cathy O’Neil, author of WashU’s 2020 Common Reading Book, Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy. O'Neil was also recently featured in the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma. The event will include a short talk by the author followed by a Q&A. We invite you to submit questions in advance or during the event. Sign up through the registration page!

This event will be moderated by WashU Economics Professor Jonathan Weinstein and is sponsored by the Washington University Economics department.


4) Virtual Parent and Family Weekend (October 23rd - 25th)

October 23rd to 25th is virtual Parent & Family Weekend! During this series of remote events, your families will be able to hear from administrators, faculty, and departments with updates on the university, information, and resources. For those of you living on campus, you will also be provided with the opportunity to send a postcard home to your family. Check out the Parent & Family Weekend web page for more information.
