RMS Science CLUB 2019-20 Committee formation
Hello, All RMS parents who have a student in RMS in 2019-20.
RMS Science Club Committee Formation meeting
Date: June 1st, Saturday
Time: 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Venue: Millenium C/12
Address : 18400 NE Union Hill Rd, Redmond, WA 98052

Agenda for this meeting,
1. Present the Committee structure as it was last year
2. Present the detail descriptions of each role on the committee.  Please click the button below.
3. Clarify any questions you have and open the floor for nominations.
4. Select the committee for 2019-20 if nominations are more than the number of roles; or identify the process for doing the same. Ideally, we would like a combination of 8th, 7th, and 6th-grade parents to be on the committee in the interest of continuity next year

Attendance at this meeting is mandatory if you wish to be on the committee for 2019-20
Last year a lot of parents had a lot of feedback and suggestions about structure, rules, and processes. We want to strongly encourage all interested parents to attend this meeting and step up to join the committee or volunteer in some capacity. Once the Committee is selected, it will be sent as a proposed committee for approval by the 2019-20 PTSA board in July.
We expect that the above said members will commit to serving the full year.
These committee members will then meet over the summer and represent the membership in deciding the mission and plan and rules etc. for Science Club 2019-20
Looking forward to seeing you.

Kudos to our winning team at the Washington State National History Day competition
Eight RMS students achieved first and second place for their interactive websites at the Washington State National History Day competition. Both teams will advance on to the national competition which takes place June 9-13 at the University of Maryland.  National History Day is an academic enrichment program for students in grades 6-12. Students select topics connected to an annual theme and complete their own in-depth research on the topic. This year, the annual theme is "Triumph and Tragedy." Students present their conclusions by creating museum-style exhibits, media documentaries, research papers, interactive websites, and dramatic performances. The competition cycle takes students from the school level to regional, state, and national competitions. At each level of competition students share their work with their peers, historians, educators, and professionals in related fields as they complete for special awards and the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition. Congratulations to these students that will represent Washington State at the national competition:

Measles
As you may be aware, two confirmed cases of measles were identified in school districts that neighbor our own, the Northshore and Issaquah school districts. We currently do not have any cases of measles in Lake Washington School District. This unusual occurrence of measles may generate some concern or questions. To help keep you informed, district processes and state law for vaccinations are  outlined on the LWSD website .
As a reminder, in January, Governor Inslee declared a public health state of emergency after reports of 31 confirmed cases of measles were identified in the state. There are now three confirmed cases in King County.
