RMS students advance to state in The National History Day competition
|
|
Ten students from Redmond Middle School were selected as regional finalists in The National History Day competition. The Regional competition took place on March 2 and eight RMS students advanced on to the state competition that will be held on May 4 at Central Washington University. National History Day is an academic enrichment program for students in grades 6-12. Students select topics connected to an annual theme and complete their own in-depth research on the topic. This year, the annual theme is "Triumph and Tragedy." Students present their conclusions by creating museum-style exhibits, media documentaries, research papers, interactive websites, and dramatic performances. The competition cycle takes students from the school level to regional, state, and national competitions. At each level of competition students share their work with their peers, historians, educators, and professionals in related fields as they complete for special awards and the opportunity to advance to the next level of competition. Congratulations to these students that will represent RMS at the state level:

It has recently come to our attention that some students are using “Google Hangouts” and/or Gmail on their school laptops. This is something that was blocked by the district at one point, but Google frequently changes their URLs and access methods, which causes it to not be caught by the district’s firewall.
The district has been made aware of this, and is taking action to block it newly, but it is likely to be changed again by Google.
We are asking for help from parents to keep an eye out, and if you notice your student using Google Hangouts or Gmail on their laptop, to please alert the school or PTSA so we can alert the district.
