Carpool Reminder: Please don't put our teachers in the awkward position of having to ask you to join the carpool line. Parents should NOT be walking up to pick up children from carpool. If you want your K-8 children to walk, please fill out a walker form, and you can pick them up at the park.

Head Lice Notice and Prevention

We want to make families aware that a few cases of head lice have been reported in our classrooms. Please take a few moments to check your child for any signs of lice or nits. If you do discover any, we ask that you notify the school nurse or office so we can take steps to help prevent further spread.

At school, we are taking extra precautions, bagging plush items, reminding students not to share jackets, hats, or hairbrushes, rolling up classroom carpets, and conducting lice checks where needed.

We also need your partnership at home. Head lice can happen to anyone and are not a sign of poor hygiene. They spread mainly through shared personal items such as hats, brushes, or bedding.

To help prevent the spread, students should not bring stuffed animals to school, including Labubus, plush keychains, or similar items, effective immediately.

Thank you for your understanding and teamwork in keeping our community healthy.

We are thrilled by the enthusiasm regarding the upcoming relaunch of our Parish Children’s Choir! Based on your feedback, we’re expanding the age range for the Children’s Choir to include 3rd graders on a case-by-case basis. If your child is in 3rd grade and would like to participate, please click the link below and complete the Google Form. Third graders will join on a trial basis to help determine whether this ministry is the right fit at this time. All children in 4th grade and above are welcome to join the choir. Looking ahead, we plan to launch an additional choir for younger children in the future.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!

How does St. Monica provide Dyslexia Support? Academic Language Therapy for Students with Dyslexia using Take Flight.

St. Monica has three therapists: Marianne Telepak, Missy Hayes, and Debi Salazar

Students who have been formally diagnosed with dyslexia receive specialized academic language therapy through the Take Flight program, developed by Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Take Flight: A comprehensive intervention for students with Dyslexia is a research-based curriculum created by experts at the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders. It builds on the proven success of earlier programs such as Alphabetic Phonics, the Dyslexia Training Program, and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Literacy Program.

Take Flight is delivered by trained dyslexia therapists. The program helps students strengthen essential reading skills-like word recognition, fluency, and comprehension, and supports their transition from therapy sessions to success in the classroom.

Our goal is to empower students with dyslexia by giving them the tools and strategies they need to thrive academically and confidently.
