News and Updates

New School Year Begins August 14

The first day of school is around the corner – are you ready? Each year, families must complete the online registration form, submit proof of residency and if needed, provide updated immunization records. SISD campuses are hosting events to accept these documents and help students and parents prepare for the new school year.

A few things you need to know:

  • School supply lists are available on our district website. Supply kits previously purchased online will be waiting for families at Elementary Meet the Teacher Night and Middle School Schedule Pickup.
  • School breakfast and lunch will continue to be free for all SISD students. Students who take or request snacks, additional entrees, or extra milk, will be charged for those items.
  • If your child will be riding the bus to and from school, you can look up their assigned bus number and bus stop location starting August 5 using the district's Find Your Bus tool at www.shermanisd.net/findyourbus

School Board to Interview Candidates for Superintendent

The Sherman ISD Board of Trustees has reviewed applications for the position of superintendent and selected candidates to interview. The Board narrowed the pool of applicants during a special Board meeting on July 22 and will begin interviews the week of July 29.

“We are excited to move forward with the next steps in this process,” said Board President Wendy Vellotti. “Our goal is to select the best leader for our community, and meeting with the candidates will provide valuable insight into their qualifications, leadership experience and vision for supporting our students, staff and families.”

Once a finalist for the position has been identified, Texas state law requires school districts to wait 21 days after naming a superintendent finalist before offering a contract.

Preparations Underway for Work at Sherman High School

Temporary fencing, a construction trailer and gravel for construction parking are being placed at Sherman High School as construction crews prepare to begin work on a 33,000-square-foot expansion project. The project is expected to take approximately 13 months and will increase the school’s capacity by 525 students.

Earlier this month, Sherman ISD celebrated the kickoff of construction of its newest elementary school in northwest Sherman in the Heritage Ranch development. Both projects are part of the 2023 bond program.
