Reminder: No School On February 2

For Professional Development

There will be no school for students next Friday, February 2 for a staff professional development day. Later in the month, there will be another staff professional development day with no school for students on Monday, February 19.

8th Graders Prepare for 2024-25 Course Selection

Today and tomorrow, Sherman ISD eighth graders are getting a sneak peek at the high school experience. They are touring Sherman High School and exploring the many opportunities available to them, like career and technical education courses, fine arts classes, student organizations, and more!


Eighth grade parents and families are invited to learn more about the courses available at SHS and the course selection process during an event scheduled next Thursday, February 1 at 6 p.m. in the Sherman High School auditorium. Eighth graders will pick their classes the week of Feb. 12-16 for next school year.

Broaden Horizons

Among the many options for Sherman ISD students to consider are courses in advanced academics. Advanced Placement classes not only challenge students to think outside the box but also provide the opportunity to earn college credit. Watch to learn more about AP!

Middle School Course Presentations

Set For February 6

If your child is attending middle school next year, join us on Tuesday, February 6 to learn more about the classes available in middle school and how to help your child make informed choices.


The event for both Piner and SMS families will be held at Sherman Middle School, 2201 E Lamar Street. Below are the times for each grade level:


  • Incoming 6th Grade Families - 5:30-6 p.m. in the SMS auditorium
  • Incoming 7th and 8th Grade Families - 6:15-6:45 p.m. in the SMS auditorium


A presentation in Spanish will also be available for all grade levels from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the little theater. Student attendance is optional.

Senior Families, Get Help Tonight with the FAFSA

Sherman High School is hosting an event starting at 5 p.m. tonight to help seniors and their families get assistance paying for college. The FAFSA is shorter and easier to complete this year, and computers and assistance will be available.


Each graduating senior is required to complete the FAFSA, TASFA (for those who are ineligible to complete the FAFSA), or an opt out form as part of state graduation requirements. Fill out the form as soon as possible to increase the odds of getting more money!

Oklahoma! Musical Draws Together SHS Fine Arts

Theatre, choir, dance, orchestra and band students collaborated to present the musical Oklahoma! this past week. Weeks of rehearsal led to outstanding performances as audiences enjoyed live performances of musical numbers and choreographed dance scenes.

Despite the cold, it was all smiles recently as the Sherman High School Bearcat Band revealed their new trailer! Band members even tested out some new features on this trailer, which will be on the road come the 2024 marching season.

Greatness in Action Program Recognizes

Outstanding Bearcats

Since the 2022-23 school year, Sherman ISD has partnered with local businesses to reward students for showing outstanding character, kindness, professionalism and more. The Greatness in Action program is another way we acknowledge and recognize students who exemplify what it means to be a Sherman Bearcat. This helps reinforce positive behavior and encourages students to follow the example for “Greatness in Action.”

Washington Elementary Students Tour Cadence Bank

On Tuesday, Washington Elementary School students took a Fabulous Field Trip to Cadence Bank in Sherman and got a behind-the-scenes look at what happens inside the bank! They also stopped by for a tour of the Sherman ISD Administration Building!

Register by Feb. 5 to Vote in the Primary Elections

The upcoming 2024 elections will be vital in determining the future of public education in Texas. Raises for teachers and increased funding for safety and security failed in the Legislature last year, and the battle over school vouchers is expected to continue. 


Making a difference starts with voting, so be sure to register to vote in the March 5 primary! The deadline to register is February 5, and early voting starts February 20.

This Week in Bearcat Athletics

Boys Basketball Sits On Top of District,

Girls To Host Senior Night

Bearcat Basketball is first place in their district, beating McKinney North, 56-43, on Friday before taking their first district loss, 54-43, against Lovejoy. Now in their second round of district games, the Bearcats play Melissa at home Friday starting at 7:30 p.m. and travel to Greenville Tuesday with the game slated for 7:15 p.m. The Bearcats have a great district record at 6-1 and look to secure a spot in the playoffs in the next few games.


The Lady Cats host their Senior Night tomorrow night before their game against Melissa! Be there before the 6:15 tipoff to celebrate the seniors!

Lifters Excel At SHS Powerlifting Meet

The SHS Powerlifting kicked off their season at home at the Iron Cat Invitational, which hosted 28 schools and over 400 lifters. Overall, the boys team placed first, and the girls team placed fourth. Below are the individual medalists:

Five Make All-Texomaland Cross Country List

Congratulations to the five Sherman High School runners who recently made the All-Texomaland Cross Country list! Xitali Mendoza-Hale is the Newcomer of the Year, and Shaylie Parkin and Ella Hackett made the girls list. The SHS girls cross country team advanced to Regionals this year after great performances all year.


John Smucker and Kaden Hernandez made the All-Texomaland list for the boys. Both were top finishers for the SHS team at the district meet this year.
