Spring Break is March 11-15

Spring Break is next week! Sherman ISD will not have school March 11-15, and we’ll see students back on March 18.

Sherman ISD Job Fairs Set for March 26 & 28

Help us spread the word! Sherman ISD is hiring for multiple positions for the 2024-25 school year: teachers, classroom assistants, special education, food service, maintenance, transportation, custodial and more! 


Join us March 26 or 28 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Sherman ISD Service Center, 2701 Loy Lake Road, to meet with staff and learn about career opportunities.

Second Annual Dr. Hicks Literacy Day Spreads Love of Reading

Nearly 130 Sherman community and staff members gave their time to read to elementary and early childhood center students across Sherman ISD today as part of the second annual Dr. Hicks Literacy Day. SISD and the United Way of Grayson County partnered last year to create the event in memory of the late Dr. David Hicks, the former SISD superintendent who championed literacy programs.

NYT Best-Selling Author Visits Sherman High School

Sherman High School hosted New York Times best-selling author Angeline Boulley for Author Fest today! Boulley spoke to juniors and seniors about her creative journey in becoming an author and the inspiration she found in life and her Native American culture, and she encouraged them to pursue their passions after graduation. Boulley will speak again tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Sherman Public Library, which partnered with SISD to host this event.

SHS Qualifies Two Artworks For State VASE

For the first time, Sherman High School student artists displayed their strong presentation skills and creative drive at the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE). The competition requires students to explain and reflect upon their artistic choices before a judge.


A total of eight students medaled at the regional level, and six advanced to area judging. From there, one student, Rosanna Kim, had two artworks qualify for the state event, which will be held in San Marcos on April 26 and 27. You can view the results here.

Simmons Bank Supports Sory Student

Leadership Program

Simmons Bank recently presented a check for $18,000 to Sory Elementary to support a student leadership program called Leader in Me. The program, which is based on Stephen Covey's 7 habits of highly effective people, is teaching students how to lead, listen to others, work together, set goals and more. 


The grant will be used to purchase additional materials to continue implementing the program. Thank you, Simmons Bank, for your support! We love our Bearcat Boosters!

Sherman FFA Competes at Texoma Exposition & Livestock Show

Sherman FFA showed off about 150 projects at the Texoma Exposition & Livestock Show (TELS) last week, coming away with several champion buckles and ribbons! Students checked in 80 rabbits for shows and had a record 40 poultry projects, and Sherman FFA had a great presence in the dairy goat show, the first ever for TELS!

Girls, Boys Powerlifters Qualify For State Meet

Congratulations to our Bearcat lifters who competed at their regional meets last week! The girls competed here at Sherman High School and placed second overall, missing first by only two points. The boys lifted at Keller Central and placed third overall. Between the two teams, 11 lifters made the cut for state. The Girls State Powerlifting Meet will be held at the Comerica Center in Frisco on March 14 and 16. The Boys State Powerlifting Meet will be held at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on March 23.

Softball Starts Off District Season With Run Rule Win

Lady Cat Softball started off their district season with a bang Wednesday night with a 11-0 run rule over Princeton! Senior Bailey Miller finished off the game with an "inside-the-park grand slam,” and pitcher Maddie Jarvis threw a no-hitter. They play at McKinney North at 6:45 p.m. this Friday, and they host Lovejoy next week on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

Bearcat Bass Fishing Sending Four Teams

to Regional Tournament

Bearcat Bass Fishing finished out their regular season tournaments with a top 10 finish on Lake Ray Roberts, and they are now sending four teams to the regional tournament on Possum Kingdom Lake on April 20!


The teams are:

  • Jaxon Cline and Levi Schmitz
  • Creed Dobbs and Will Shelby
  • Drake Holmes
  • Clay Boothe and Drew Bossen

Bearcat Athletics Recap

Boys Soccer

Boys Soccer is headed to the playoffs! They currently sit at fourth in the district and have split the last two matches with a 5-1 win over Melissa and a 4-1 loss against Greenville. They finish their season after Spring Break with an away game against Denison. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19.


Tennis

Varsity tennis had a great performance at the Sulphur Springs tournament! In doubles, Thalia Estes and Kevin Brown placed second, and Trista Bennett and Allie Cernero placed first in the consolation bracket. Linus Scheibmeir and Reece Richardson placed first in their consolation bracket as well. In singles, Michaela Clements placed first in consolation.


Girls Soccer

The Lady Cats held Melissa to a tie on Friday and dropped their away match against Greenville on Tuesday. They finish out their season with a home match against Denison on March 19 at 5:30 p.m.


Baseball

Bearcat Baseball faced tough opponents in the Princeton Tournament over the weekend, but they look to bounce back in the Frisco Tournament today through Saturday. Baseball’s first district game will be versus Princeton on Wednesday, March 13, and they then travel to Princeton on Thursday, March 14. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
