First Design Meeting Held

For New Multipurpose Stadium

Sherman ISD hosted the first of two design planning meetings for the new multipurpose stadium at Sherman High School on Tuesday. Students, parents, staff and community members representing a variety of stakeholder groups came together to share their ideas. Look for an opportunity next week to provide your feedback on the look and features of the new stadium!

SHS Hi-Steppers Celebrate 60 Years

With Alumni Performance

The Sherman Hi-Steppers celebrated their 60th anniversary this month, and they couldn’t let the opportunity pass without a reunion performance. Seventy-three former Hi-Steppers participated in a performance at the October 6 football game, with graduation years ranging from 1965 to 2023.

SHS Senior Recognized for Outstanding

Academic Achievement

Each year, over a million students across the nation take Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and a small percentage earn a score of 5, the highest score possible. An even smaller number earn all 100/100 points possible. Rachel Hammett, a senior at Sherman High School, is a part of that select group.

Learn How to Better Support Your Child With Dyslexia

Join us on Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m. in the Sherman Middle School Auditorium as guest speaker Eric McGehearty shares his strategies and insights on how to help your child with dyslexia. McGehearty is the founder of StandUpLD non-profit, a support network for parents and educators seeking resources to support and inspire children with learning differences, and will speak on neurodiversity, the power of thinking differently, as well as his own experiences as a dyslexic. A Spanish translator will be available. Childcare will not be provided.

Silver Cats Take Tours Of Fairview, SHS

Sherman ISD welcomed our Silver Cats today! The SHS Band and cheer team greeted them at the doors of Sherman High School, where they took a tour of the facilities and enjoyed a lunch prepared by SHS culinary arts students and performance by choir students! They then had a look inside classrooms at Fairview Elementary, seeing our innovative, creative and engaging instruction in action.

You Can Check Your Child’s Grades Online

As the first nine-weeks period comes to a close next Friday, October 13, don’t forget that you can check your child’s grades online through the Frontline app or Parent Grade Viewer Portal. This Week in Bearcat Athletics

SHS Varsity Girls Cross Country

Qualifies For Regionals

Bearcat Cross Country had great performances at the district meet at Myers Park on Tuesday, and the varsity girls team has advanced to Regionals! They placed third overall, and top finishers were Xitali Mendoza (11th), Shaylie Parkin (16th) and Ella Hackett (21st). They compete at Regionals on October 23 at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.


The varsity boys placed fifth overall, and top finishers were John Smucker (21st), Kaden Hernandez (25th) and Max Harrison (28th).


The JV girls placed fourth overall with the top finisher being Marissa Spencer (29th). The JV boys also placed fourth overall, and their top finisher was Aiden Ruiz (34th).

Bearcat Athletics Update

Football

Our Sherman Bearcats took on Frisco Heritage for Youth Night. After a tough match, our Bearcats fell against the Coyotes, 34-17. They take on Frisco Reedy this Friday at 7 p.m. at Kuykendall Stadium.


Volleyball

The Lady Cats have had tough matchups this past week. They took McKinney North last Friday and lost the match, 3-1. On Tuesday, they traveled to play a tough Lovejoy team and fell in three sets. They take on Melissa this Friday at 5 p.m.
