Sherman High School Hosts Shattered Dreams

Sherman High School presented Shattered Dreams to juniors and seniors this week to demonstrate the real-life consequences of underage drinking and driving. Students witnessed a staged car accident and response from Sherman ISD Police Department, Sherman Police Department and Sherman Fire-Rescue and heard from officers who shared their experiences responding to similar events. Shattered Dreams serves as a lesson to students before end-of-year events like prom and graduation. Senior prom is this Saturday, 8-11 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Sherman Education Foundation Surprises Circle of Success Grant Recipients

The Sherman Education Foundation revealed their Circle of Success grant recipients recently all over SISD! Congratulations to the recipients; we’re excited for the future projects and experience our educators will be bringing to Bearcat students! Look for a grant total and complete list of winners to be released after the Circle of Success dinner tonight.

Early Voting For School Board Election

Starts Next Week

Early voting begins next Monday, April 22 and runs through April 30 in the Sherman ISD School Board Election. Places 1 and 2 will be on the ballot along with other local races. Grayson College also has a $456.5 million bond election that would provide new facilities and infrastructure with no impact to the tax rate. Election Day is on Saturday, May 4.

Six Qualify For National Junior Classical

League Convention

The SHS Junior Classical League competed at the state convention recently and took home several awards! Six in total qualified for the national convention to be held at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, July 21-27.

Sherman ISD will host a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 30 to help inform parents about current technology trends and how they can protect their children and monitor their online activity. We’ll host experts from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Grayson County Children’s Advocacy Center to help answer your questions about online safety, privacy and more! 


Spanish translation will be available, and there will be free giveaways and raffle items! Must RSVP and be present to win.

Families Create Recycled Artworks For Earth Day

Students and parents from Fred Douglass and Perrin ECCs created fun art pieces using recycled materials like old cardboard boxes or plastic bottles to recognize Earth Day!

STAAR Testing Runs Through April 25

STAAR testing continues at SISD campuses through April 25, and campuses are closed to visitors on testing days. Dates vary by subject and grade level. 


Students should be at school on testing days and be encouraged to do their best. The tests help inform teachers and families about student proficiency and progress on grade-level knowledge and skills.

It’s Not Too Late to Register Your Young Child!

Sherman ISD recently hosted events to enroll incoming kindergarten students and accept required documents for Pre-Kindergarten, Head Start and Early Head Start applications. If you missed these events or know someone who still needs to register their young child for the 2024-25 school year, please encourage them to complete the online registration form at www.shermanisd.net/register.


For the remainder of the school year, Fred Douglass Early Childhood Center will offer in-person assistance on school days between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for families who need help applying for any of our SISD early childhood programs. Families of incoming kindergartners should contact the child’s future elementary campus.

This Week in Bearcat Athletics

Baseball Celebrates Senior Night

Bearcat Baseball honored their nine seniors Tuesday night for their leadership and hard work this season. Congratulations to Eric Davis, Rylan Jernigan, Drake Holmes, Paxton Samuelson, Keegan Joseph, Cooper Morgan, Carson Vansickle, Anthony Zamora, and trainer Mackenzie Ortiz! After non-district play against Rider High this week, the Bearcats are looking to secure a spot in the playoffs with wins over Denison next week. The first game is Tuesday in Denison, and their last game of the season will be at home against Denison. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.

Softball Secures Playoff Spot

With a 18-0 over Greenville on Friday, Lady Cat Softball has officially clinched a playoff spot! They are currently in third place in the district with one game left, and it’s a big one. They take on the Denison Lady Jackets at home this Friday for Senior Night. Senior Night activities start at 6:15 p.m., and first pitch is at 6:45 p.m.
