News and Updates

Work Begins at Crutchfield and Fairview

Construction fencing is up at Crutchfield and Fairview elementary schools as crews prepare the land adjacent to the existing schools for construction. It’s the first signs of progress on the new and improved campuses, which are scheduled to open for the 2025-26 school year. 


In addition to those replacement campuses, work will begin later this spring and summer on a new elementary school in northwest Sherman and stadium and additions at Sherman High School. Also funded under the 2023 bond program are a new early childhood center and another brand-new elementary, planned to open in 2026.

Sherman ISD Job Fairs Set for March 26 & 28

Help us spread the word! Sherman ISD is hiring for multiple positions for the 2024-25 school year: teachers, classroom assistants, special education, food service, maintenance, transportation, custodial and more!

Early childhood applications are now being accepted for the 2024-25 school year! Please see the criteria for Pre-K, Head Start and Early Head Start to see if you qualify, and plan to attend an upcoming help session at Neblett Elementary if you need assistance filling out the online application form. The next session is this Saturday!

Save the Date for Kinder Round-Up

Sherman ISD will host Kindergarten Round-Up on April 2 at all SISD elementary schools. Staff will be available to assist families with the online registration process from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 


Children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2024 are eligible to enter kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year. The following documents are needed:


  • Parent/Guardian state-issued identification card or driver’s license, if applicable
  • Certified birth certificate 
  • Current immunization record 
  • Current proof of residency (utility bill, lease, etc.)
  • Social Security card, if applicable

Dillingham Students Get Dolled Up For Picture Day

Dillingham Elementary students got all dolled up today for spring picture day! Coordinated by Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region, teachers and volunteers curled, trimmed, and styled dozens of hairdos to boost student confidence and make sure they look and feel their best in front of the camera.

Watch Live Art Demonstrations on Monday!

Did you know March is Youth Art Month in Texas? Join Sherman ISD art educators and their students at the SISD Service Center on Monday, March 25 for the first ever “Art In Action” event! This art gallery workshop will feature live demonstrations of music, claywork, painting and more done by Sherman students and teachers! The workshop begins at 5 p.m. and closes at 6:30 p.m.

Register To Vote in Upcoming Board Election

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming School Board election is April 4. Early voting begins April 22 and ends April 30, and Election Day is on Saturday, May 4. Places 1 and 2 on the Sherman ISD Board of Trustees will be on the ballot along with other local races.

Dr. Thomas O’Neal Appointed Acting Superintendent

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Thomas O’Neal is serving as acting superintendent. Dr. O’Neal is a former principal of Sherman High School and Fairview Elementary and returned to SISD in 2022 after 14 years in various administrative roles in Anna ISD.

Sherman ISD PD, Sherman Fire Department To Hold Bleeding Control Station Training

The Sherman ISD Police Department, in partnership with the Sherman Fire Department, will host training on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m.-noon in the cafeteria at Sherman High School, 2907 West Travis Street. The training will cover how to use materials in the Bleeding Control Stations located at every SISD school to help prevent death. Texas law requires districts to offer this training to students in seventh grade and above, as well as currently registered parent volunteers.

Boys Powerlifting Starts on Saturday

Girls Powerlifting represented Sherman well at the THSWPA State Championship in Frisco on March 16! Jada Washington took bronze in her weight class, and Libby Cernero held the state bench press record of 295 lbs for a few minutes.

Lady Cat Soccer Closes Season With Shutout of Denison, Boys Headed To Playoffs

Your Sherman Lady Cat Soccer capped off their season on Tuesday by shutting out Denison, 2-0, during Youth Night! Goals came from Peyton Cottingham and Valeria Guerrero.


To the north, Sherman Bearcat Soccer tied Denison, 1-1, and lost in penalty kicks, 5-4. Boys soccer will be in playoff action next week, however, as they play the Ennis Lions on March 26 at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton. The game begins at 6 p.m.

Softball, Baseball Off to Strong Starts

SHS varsity softball and baseball have come out of the gate strong in district play. Softball started district with two shutouts against Princeton and McKinney North and most recently picked up a 21-11 win over Greenville to sit at a 3-2 district record. The Lady Cats travel to Denison on Tuesday next week with first pitch at 6:15 p.m.


Baseball began their district season during Spring Break and picked up two wins against Princeton. After a close 4-2 loss at McKinney North on Tuesday, the Bearcats host McKinney North this Friday at 7:30 p.m.


Sherman Alum Sets College Program Record

Ethan Bedgood, Class of 2020, recently broke the UT-Tyler Baseball program record for most career RBIs and now sits at 155 currently. Bedgood, a senior on the UT-Tyler Patriots, is an integral part of the offense for the No. 5 team in the region in one of the toughest DII conferences.
