Happy October Vine Hill Families!

It's hard to believe we are already heading into fall. Vine Hill maintains a focus on safety every month, but in October, we have a few extra things lined up. The Great California Shakeout Earthquake Drill is on October 18th. Vine Hill will participate with schools and organizations throughout the state to practice our earthquake responsiveness. At the end of the month, our fifth graders will be participating in Ecology Action’s Bike Smart program. Ecology Action is also hosting a public meeting on Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 in the SVHS Student Union to talk about creating safe walking and biking routes to school for students. Hope to see some of you there!

With safety in mind, please remind your children to be careful while walking in town (especially on Wednesdays).  Being thoughtful pedestrians, and treating our local businesses with respect, are sometimes forgotten when out with friends. Please take this opportunity to discuss how you expect your child to act when you are not present. I’d love our Bears to have a reputation in Scotts Valley for courtesy and kindness.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank two amazing community organizations; the Vine Hill PTA , and the Scotts Valley Education Foundation . I am continually impressed with the amazing community members who put in so much time and effort to enrich our students education. Please continue to support these organizations throughout the year.

Thank you,
Tracey Neilsen
Heading out of TOWN if it's 5 days or MORE you can do an Independent Study Contract.
If your child will be out of school for 5 consecutive school days or more, an Independent Study Contract may be used for the days that your child will be out of school. It is a "win-win" for everyone. Vine Hill School will still receive their daily ADA, your child will have an excused absence, and your child will not fall behind academically.
Please remember that we need sufficient time to gather the work for your child.

We require a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your child's leave of absence. If you are able to apply sooner than that it is strongly encouraged.

A contract must be signed in advance of the date the independent study begins and the work must be turned in on the date specified in the contract. Your child's teacher will evaluate your child's work and determine whether or not they have successfully completed the contract.

If you have any questions please contact Mallorie Brooks or your child's teacher. Forms are located in the school office.

Vine Hill Bears love our furry friends, but we are not so keen with their doggie messes on our campus. Please take care of your pets, and keep an eye out and remind our non bear friends to do the same.
