Business Development District Grant Match Increased To 75%

To encourage program use, Blue Island's Community Development Committee recently voted to increase the funding match for the Business Development District Grant Program from 50% to 75% -- meaning business owners in the district can now make up to $10,000 in eligible exterior improvements, and pay just $2500 for their portion of the match.

MetroSouth Public Hearing
After receiving Blue Island's demand for a public hearing on the proposed closure of MetroSouth Medical Center and the need for a fully functioning hospital in the region, the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board has agreed to conduct a public hearing on Wednesday, July 24th at St. Benedict Church. The hearing will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break at noon.

If you would like to speak at the meeting about the importance of the hospital facility and why we need to save our hospital, please email with the subject line: "HOSPITAL."  Please include your name, email, phone number and the subject of your testimony.

Back To School Fair
Blue Island Park District is hosting a "Back to School Fair" on Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Field House, 12804 S. Highland Ave, Blue Island, IL. The free event provides school children and their families with school supplies and other back-to-school essentials along with on-site services, games, entertainment, food, and fun.

Here's how you can help:
Event Sponsorship: Become an official event sponsor, and receive recognition with company branding in all printed, digital, and social media marketing in advance and on the day of the event.
Fill The Backpack Sponsors: Gather up your staff and make it a fun, teambuilding effort to set a goal of backpacks filled with needed supplies for area children, and receive recognition with company branding on social and digital media and on the day of the event.
Host a "Fill The Backpack" Drive at Your Place of Business: Invite the public in to your place of business as a collection spot for backpack and school supply donations. Your support will be advertised in all printed, digital, and social media marketing ahead of the event, as well as creating goodwill that increases foot traffic to your business.

Blue Cap offers a Food Pantry serving Blue Island and Robbins residents who provide a valid ID or piece of mail 
proving residency. The Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

They accept non-perishable food, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo/conditioner, shaving cream, disposable razors, toilet paper, tissue, laundry detergent, dish soap, multi-purpose cleaners, disinfectant wipes, and baby diapers and wipes.
