The Carriage House Celebrates a Decade!
What better way to celebrate 10 years of business than to reveal updated menus for lunch and dinner!
When The Carriage House Restaurant was built, the intent was to offer a semi-casual environment with a varied menu to appeal to everyone. With this concept in mind, we've kept our promise and still provide an elegant and sophisticated dining room that's perfect for daytime tourists and families but also perfect for special occasions and date nights. Additionally, our menu is always changing so our repeat diners can enjoy new items regularly. We hope you will visit soon and see why locals have made this one of their favorite go-to restaurants.
Live Music in Dixie Cafe
If you're looking for great food, live music, and an unforgettable venue, then look no further! Located in The Great River Road Museum, Dixie Cafe has live music and dinner every Friday! Dinner starts at 5 PM and available until 8 PM. Baton Rouge area bands will perform from 7 PM - 9 PM.
Secrets From the Kitchen at Houmas House
If you've followed us on social media the last two years, you've seen our weekly live cooking shows. Each Thursday Chef Jeremy Langlois has shared some of his favorite recipes while sprinkling in a little history. These cooking shows have brought a whole new dimension to our interaction with all of you and to our restaurants. Thank you for watching, commenting and letting us be part of your week.
Dog Days of Summer
With Summer coming to an end I start to get excited about cooler days, the Fall gardens and all the festivities about to happen here. The past few months I have had so much fun seeing all the kids visiting Houmas House and playing fetch with me. And I love sharing my colorful gardens with the garden enthusiast. It's been a fun summer all around!
If you didn't get to visit this summer, our gardens are still flourishing and will be in full bloom for a couple more months. It's not until November the color renewal process will begin and 50,000 new plants will blanket the entire 38 acres. It's truly an amazing transformation!
Thank you to all who visited me this summer. I hope you will return again soon.

Love,
Princess Maggie

Author Olaf Schmidt tells the true story of Louise von Seybold, a young woman growing up in 19th century Bavaria, eager to escape the monotony of a predetermined life plan. Her dreams seem to come true when she falls in love with a handsome stranger named Valsin Bozonnier-Marmillion, who takes her across the ocean to live in one of Louisiana's most spectacular mansions. But what happens on the day of their arrival puts an end to all romantic cliches and leaves the couple in a state of shock. Louise and Valsin are forced to battle epidemics and personal illness, accidents and natural disasters, only to find their entire existence threatened by America's great tragedy, the Civil War. In almost 100 letters written to her mother and sisters in Bavaria, Louise creates a sweeping panorama of the American South during its historical downfall. Illustrated by countless images and documents, this book offers a uniquely authentic window into a period of history that continues to have a dramatic impact on contemporary United States culture and society.
This is a hardback book and measures 9"x11".
