Join the June meeting and you will have the opportunity to hear from Shawn Townsend,
DC's new Director of the Mayor's Office of Nightlife & Culture
often referred to as the "Night Mayor".
As Director, Townsend serves as the point of contact between DC Government, the nightlife industry, and District residents.
Shawn works with the 15-member Commission of Nightlife, comprised of government, private-sector, and community representatives and has been invited to talk about his role managing Washington, DC’s growing and developing after-hours economy and managing the balance with the needs of neighbors and community safety. Bring questions and concerns, a Q&A session will follow his presentation.
Our meetings are always free and open to the public. Bring a friend or neighbor.

Friends will gather on June 8th to celebrate Don Jones life at the Friends Meeting House.
Don chose the Friends Meeting House because during the early AIDS crisis many Christian churches refused to hold services for those who died of AIDS and Friends Meeting House did provide a welcoming space for services.
Don was a long-time resident of the Dupont Circle neighborhood, where he was an active member in the Dupont Circle Conservancy, Dupont Circle Citizens Association and Dupont Circle Village. A r
eception will follow service.
*The Pride Parade starts at 4:30 PM, please be aware that car traffic may be difficult as Meeting House is north of the parade staging area and route.

HPRB Turns Aside Community Concerns and Approves Masonic Temple Development

|
At its May 23rd hearing, the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) decided to advance the proposed development behind the Masonic Temple. DCCA in several filings had raised serious concerns regarding the design of the development and the process by which HPRB proceeded with its review. You can find DCCA’s submissions on the DCCA

. Lance Salonia, Chair of the DCCA Regulatory Committee testified in person at the hearing. Other community groups and members raised significant objections to the development. DCCA is disappointed with both the substance of HPRB’s decision and the process by which it was reached.

DC Celebrates Walt Whitman

“This is the city and I am one of the citizens,” Walt Whitman declared in his signature poem Song of Myself.
The Walt Whitman 200 Festival celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of America’s most significant and enduring poets, who was a resident of Washington, DC for ten years during and after the Civil War. With events in all of DC’s eight wards, the festival includes multiple opportunities for residents to engage with Whitman’s legacy through readings, discussions, workshops, family events, exhibits, and more.

Solas Nua Wins Helen Hayes Award

DCCA congratulates Sola Nua's Board President and Dupont resident Dennis Houlihan and his ensemble for winning the highly coveted Helen Hayes award for The Frederick Douglass Project. Solas Nua, ‘new light’ in Irish, is dedicated exclusively to bringing contemporary Irish arts to the Washington, D.C. area.

DC Office of Planning Survey Seeks Resident Input
|
|
The D.C. Office of Planning (OP) is asking residents to evaluate eight “values” statements that will inform the Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process. The survey invitations says it is designed to help Mayor Bowser and DC Government identify which value statements are most important to residents, and which may need to be refined. The results will guide the decision-making for the Comprehensive Plan Amendment Process.

here and will remain open through June, during which period the office says it will also host community meetings across the city to gather more-granular information from residents on their views.
This is an important planning document which has the potential to impact significantly development in Dupont Circle. Please complete the survey and ensure that your voice is heard!
