WHY I VOLUNTEER
by Jan
My family had a dairy farm. We made maple syrup in the early spring and tended a garden. In summer, we did haying. Winter, feed the cows. Fall, canning. With five older brothers and two sisters, one younger, one older, there was always someone who needed help. From an early age, my role was that of a helper. I was kind of a gofer: Janie, go for a wrench. Get jars for canning. Bring the feed for the rabbits.
Why did I volunteer? ACTS is associated with Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where Carol and I attend. Carol needed help at ACTS, so I volunteered - as a helper, of course.
