Newsletter for Parents and Friends of
Beaumont School

October 14 - 20, 2018
Message from the Principal

Parents and Friends of Beaumont,

On Monday, October 15, at 10:00 a.m., Beaumont will welcome Bishop Nelson Perez to celebrate Mass and the Canonization of Archbishop Oscar Romero. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Due to increased demand, we are asking all expected guests to RSVP through this link . We are thrilled to show Bishop Perez all of the remarkable things the young ladies are doing here at Beaumont and to give him the opportunity to experience the great Ursuline charism that lives throughout our building. His visit comes at a particularly special time with the canonization of the Salvadorian Archbishop Oscar Romero. Romero’s canonization is of unique importance to not only El Salvador, but also to Cleveland and Beaumont because of our unique and personal relationship. Responding to the call of Pope John XXIII, our diocese established a presence in the country over fifty years ago. The parish has an established mission there, with participation from parishes throughout the diocese. Tragically, it was in 1980, that Archbishop Romero was martyred while celebrating Mass. A year of terror followed that saw four missionaries from Cleveland, including Beaumont’s Sister Dorothy Kazel, martyred by the members of the El Salvador military as well. Archbishop Romero will officially be declared a saint of the church on October 14, 2018 the day before Bishop Perez's celebration. We hope you are able to join us to welcome the Bishop and celebrate the contributions of Oscar Romero.

Athletics Update

It’s an exciting time for our athletic teams as the postseason begins. Our soccer team will host Painesville Harvey in an opening round contest on Monday, October 15. That’s a 4:30 p.m. start at Denison Park. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students.
The volleyball team will open the postseason next Thursday, October 18, against the winner of Tuesday’s (Oct. 16) Hawken/Lutheran East match. Beaumont will play the winner at 6:00 p.m. on October 18 at Gilmour Academy.
Good luck to our cross country team in Saturday’s, October 13, North Coast League Championship Meet. The girls varsity race is at 10:45 a.m. at NDCL.
I wanted to apologize to any parents who were left waiting for an extended period of time in an effort to pick up their daughter(s) yesterday from PSAT testing. Based on previous years, we had expected to complete testing by 11:30 a.m. Unfortunately, due to a longer script and an additional section, many classes far exceeded the planned release time. Moving forward, we will allot more time for testing and be proactive with our alert system in PowerSchool to let you know about any expected delays.

Mission Integration

This week we are called to think about the importance of one human life in the lives of the people around them. St. Angela, as one woman, in a society which did not value women or believe that they could contribute to their world, changed the lives of women forever. Her small company of women, changed her world and continues to change ours. As we celebrate the life of Archbishop Oscar Romero, we recall that the life of this one just man, who stood for peace and justice against the powerful forces in his country, changed the culture of El Salvador and continues to change us, by calling us to seek peace by working for justice.
Campus Ministry News

Students and faculty from ten Catholic Schools for Peace and Justice participated in the annual Rally for Life today! They began with a Mass at St. John’s Cathedral and then proceeded to march with drums and banners to Cleveland’s Public Square. At the Square, students from the schools were invited to stand and give a brief speech on life issues. This event has been a great witness to the city with people stopping on their lunch break to hear the concerns of our young people!

The Beaumont Community is excited about the visit of Bishop Perez and celebration of a Mass on Monday, October 15! It will be a first visit for us and a celebration of the sainthood of Bishop Oscar Romero of Salvador, with whom our beloved Sister Dorothy Kazel worked and died.

Planning is underway for the upcoming joint Kairos retreat with St. Edward High School on November 8-10 th . Juniors and seniors will be attending the retreat which is at capacity. There will be a Beaumont Kairos retreat in the spring!
