A Message from President Hoke

file.jpeg

As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, we are thrilled to have our students and educators back on campus filling our classrooms and hallways after the quiet summer months. Beginning our third school year navigating COVID, we continue to follow the recommendations from health officials and remain committed to providing our students with dynamic in-person learning, outstanding extracurricular activities, competitive athletic opportunities, and our beloved Beaumont traditions.

To keep you informed about what is happening behind the walls of Beaumont this year, we introduce Beaumont Buzz, a new bi-monthly e-newsletter. In each issue, you will find a short prayer and reflection from Sr. Cheryl, profiles on how Beaumont students and alumnae are changing the world, important dates for upcoming school-events, and current happenings from campus.

I welcome your feedback and input as we launch and develop this newsletter, and hope to see you around campus in the near future.

Pray with Us- Sr. Cheryl Mentkowski

WHAT I READ: “Build community wherever you go.” The 5th Counsel of St. Angela

WHAT I HEARD: St. Angela Merici, the foundress of the Ursuline Sisters, frequently spoke about unity and used the word “togetherness” more than any other in her Counsels.  She considered unity the sign of God’s grace working within us and knew the power of people acting together, praying together and caring for one another. Only together can we carry out the work which God entrusts to us as we strive to be of “one heart and one will.”  The Beaumont community tries to build community and invites all members of our extended family to act in solidarity with us as we try to live and work and pray together in seeking God’s will for us.

QUESTIONS FOR MEDITATION: How do I deal with the forces which seek to divide our families, our communities and our nation? Am I a source of unity among the people with whom I live and work?

PRAYER: Gracious God, we ask You for the grace to be an advocate for peace and unity wherever we go. Help us to accept others with respect, especially those with whom we do not agree. We ask this through the intercession of St. Angela, in the name of Jesus our Brother. Amen.

A Note from Mr. Beyer

Beaumont’s 2021-2022 school year is off to a terrific start. To kick off the new term, our students and educators gathered for Convocation in person in the gymnasium for the first time since March 2020. The Beaumont Spirit was palpable as President Hoke addressed the school community stating that this year will be a year of joy. We will continuously strive to joyfully build community each day through our classroom activities, extra-curriculars, and simply greeting each other as we pass through the halls.

The Beaumont community looks forward to a joyful school year!

Summer at Beaumont

Summer Camps

Beaumont was thrilled to host several camps again this summer! In June and July, we welcomed campers for several different Enrichment and Athletic Camps.

The beloved BeauArtz, an art camp for rising 5th and 6th graders returned this year. We had 33 campers who participated in workshops in Art, Culinary, Intro to Podcasting, Videography & Photoshop, Drama, and Sewing for Service that were led by our ambassadors and faculty members.

B Global, designed for rising 7th and 8th graders, provided a behind the scenes view of all Beaumont has to offer! Fifty-two campers joined us for workshops in Science Exploration, Drama, Service, Studio Art, and Photoshop & Yearbook Design. A special thanks to our ambassadors and instructors who made these workshops possible.

The Blue Streak Athletic Camps hosted over 85 students for Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field. Beaumont’s very own coaches taught these young athletes’ new techniques and skills to improve their performance as they prepare for their upcoming seasons. Our Sport Performance Trainer, Dr. Carol Mack ‘00  and our Athletic Trainer, Nicole Goode hosted the Sports Performance Camp where the girls hit the weight room, discussed injury prevention, and various ways to fuel our bodies for maximum performance.

Record Setting Annual Fund

In the 2020-2021 school year we achieved our highest Annual Fund total in school history, exceeding last year’s results by 30%!

We are truly grateful for all the support from the Beaumont Community and your belief in our Ursuline mission to educate young women for life, leadership and service.

Women Changing the World

India '22

This summer India ‘22 worked as a Junior Teacher at the Aspire Program, a tuition-free enrichment and leadership program that aids low income communities. As a Junior Teacher, India planned activities, assisted Core Teachers, acted as a role model for students, cultivated strong relationships, and planned events for the entire student body. India's own experience in the Aspire Program inspired her to want to influence change throughout these communities just as her JT's did for her.

“Here at Aspire, I found my voice and was taught how to lead.” - India ‘22

Margaret (Meg) Ruesch, PhD '87

Dr. Margaret Ruesch, vice president of research and development at Pfizer in Boston has played a critical role in the development of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Over several months, Pfizer worked diligently with external stakeholders, including their German company BioNTech, regulatory agencies and vendors to develop an effective vaccine. Meg notes it was critical to be flexible and open to collaboration.

Meg says their team approaches their work with a great sense of purpose. As she discusses in our Beyond Beaumont Podcast, when you're given such a tall order that literally changes the trajectory of lives across the globe, you start by working across disciplines with a lot of people trying to figure out how to develop a process to manufacture a high quality, safe, consistent, and effective vaccine in large numbers.

Listen to President Hoke's conversation with Meg on our Beyond Beaumont Podcast.
