Pray with Us- Sr. Cheryl Mentkowski

God of all time, in this New Year, Your servant St. Angela reminds us that our actions have impact and our words are powerful. Bless us with her insight and compassion so that we might follow her as:

We move gently through the world.

We speak only after we have listened well.

We look at the world with tenderness.

We honor rather than destroy.

Loving and Generous God, make our year a happy one! Not by taking away our sorrows and pain, but by strengthening us to bear it, when it comes.  Help us enter the New Year joyfully, eager to laugh and dance and dream, giving thanks for our many gifts. We ask these blessings through the intercession of St. Angela, in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, our Brother. Amen.

In December, we celebrated the life of Sister Dorothy Kazel, an Ursuline sister who was martyred in El Salvador 41 years ago. Prior to her service in El Salvador, Sr. Dorothy worked at Beaumont as a guidance counselor. Her life of faith and service is an inspiration to us all, as we remember that she too once walked the same halls we walk each day.

We were blessed to welcome her nephew, Jamie Kazel, for mass as he shared several inspiring stories of Sr. Dorothy’s life with us.

Since 2018, Mr. Steward, has been working with students to make sleeping mats or "Mercy Mats" for the homeless. Students and faculty work before and after school to tie recycled plastic bags into mats that provide a cushion beneath blankets or sleeping bags. The mats made are donated to the Metanoia Project at St. Malachi's Parish.

Advanced Spanish and IB Spanish classes translated letters last semester that the students at COAR wrote for their Cleveland sponsors. COAR is the school that Sr. Dorothy Kazel started in El Salvador.

Our Spanish students have participated in this service project for the last 10+ years to experience solidarity with the students in El Salvador and learn about the community that Sr. Dorothy served.
