Dear Neighbors 
We had a lot of good luck here and didn't experience any flooding from Tropical Storm Rosa. Most of us got a slow, steady rainfall that soaked peacefully into the ground. This was an unexpected treat.
This & That:
- There will be an additional free food bank distribution open to the public at BC School on 10/23 from 2:45 to 3:15 PM in the cafeteria
- Several neighbors have requested that folks keep barking dogs inside during evening hours so that they can sit outside or walk and enjoy the nice weather without the noise.
- A correction for the MRFD Auxiliary quilt raffle featured in the last eNews: the tickets are $3 each or two for $5.
- This all ways stop was installed at the intersection of Navajo & Valancius in July by Yavapai County Public Works as a safety measure.
- Congratulations to the Yavapai Apache Nation and ADOT for their construction careers partnership (more info below)
- The Town of Camp Verde Parks & Recs invites grade school age children to their Fun Fitness & Sports Fridays (info below)
Upcoming this weekend are the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Lake Montezuma Property Owners' Association and the the 25th anniversary for the Beaver Creek Adult Center. The bird walks at Montezuma Well start on Saturday. On Monday YC Sheriff Waugh will be at the Adult Center and the Financial Peace University starts at Beaver Creek Baptist Church. Free flu shots will be given at the Adult Center on Friday.
Special events for later in the month include the public hearing about combining the Montezuma Rimrock and Camp Verde Fire Districts, the Beaver Creek Trails day, the free food distributions at Beaver Creek School and the Halloween Spooktacular. Saturday, 10/6-The 50th Anniversary of Lake Montezuma Property Owners' Association (BCCA)
starts at 2:30 PM.
LMPOA (recently known as the Beaver Creek Community Association) is celebrating 50 years of serving the community. Please join us for an Italian buffet dinner, music and raffle on the patio at Robbie's, 5155 N Dave Wingfield Rd in Rimrock, starting at 2:30 PM.
We are highlighting our involvement since our founding with the Montezuma Rimrock Fire District. Virginia Bartling (Virginia Engle) will speak about the mid 90's when she was LMPOA President during the great flooding and the formation of the first MRFD elected fire board. Sunday, 10/7-The 25th Anniversary Party for the Beaver Creek Adult Center
starts at 2 PM at the Center.
FREE!!! Come enjoy a grand re-opening of the Adult Center. Sandwiches & goodies will be served at 2 PM, and a video presentation by Irene Klein will occur about 3 PM. The celebration will also honor Juanita Morrell who included a donation for the Center in her will. Some of these funds are being used for remodeling of the Center which has been a team effort by the current Board and volunteers, and former Board Member Kathy Schroettner.

Saturday, 10/20--Beaver Creek Trails Day
is celebrated in Sycamore Park from 11 AM to 2 PM. Coffee & lemonade will be ready at 11 AM. Dutch oven enchiladas, beans and peach cobbler will be ready to serve at noon. We have a raffle gift for everyone, information on a proposed new trail, trail tool display, sign-ups for hikes and trail maintenance, and displays from other organizations. PHOENIX - With the Arizona Department of Transportation covering the cost of training and providing safety gear for participants, dozens of members of the Yavapai-Apache Nation have completed a Construction Academy that helps them launch careers in transportation.
Among other instruction, the academy offers flagger certification and safety training required to work on construction projects within and around the reservation in the Verde Valley. In addition, some participants have received training required to obtain commercial driver licenses allowing them to drive for construction contractors.
It's another example of ADOT's On-The-Job-Training Supportive Services Program helping expand career opportunities for members of tribal nations. In 2017, a Construction Academy sponsored by ADOT helped members of the Tucson-area Pascua Yaqui Tribe earn certification to work on tribal construction projects.
"These partnerships with tribes are a natural extension of programs designed to connect people with opportunities in the transportation industry," said Dr. Vivien Lattibeaudiere, ADOT's employee and business development administrator. "Training offered through ADOT, through contractors, through community colleges and through other avenues connects members of disadvantaged groups, including those who are unemployed, with construction careers."
Seven members of the Yavapai-Apache Nation who completed the most recent Construction Academy training also got hands-on experience in concrete masonry and carpentry trades through various construction projects on the reservation. In the process, those who completed all instruction offered over 16 weeks received six units of college credit in blueprint-reading, construction math, masonry and carpentry.
This latest phase of instruction, offered in collaboration with Gila Community College, expands a Construction Academy Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program that ADOT and the Yavapai-Apache Nation's Tribal Employment Rights Organization (TERO) launched last year.
"The partnership with Gila Community College and ADOT has helped to educate and give practical skills to our tribal members," said Brian M. Kelley, the Yavapai-Apache Nation's TERO officer. "This was an opportunity that we needed and really enjoyed."
ADOT's On-The-Job-Training Supportive Services Program, part of the agency's Business Engagement and Compliance Office, offers Construction Academy programs to help remove barriers to construction careers for members of disadvantaged groups, including minorities, women and those who are unemployed. ADOT's commitment extends to helping participants move on to construction apprenticeships and providing support and guidance as they work toward journeyman status.
Various other Construction Academy opportunities are available around the state. Individuals also can receive training that will help them become concrete finishers, block masons, highway surveyors, heavy equipment operators and commercial drivers.
ADOT covers training costs and fees for participants and provides support including transportation and child care assistance, job-readiness training, and safety gear such as hard hats and protective eyewear.
During the recently completed federal fiscal year, ADOT's On-The-Job Training Supportive Services Program received $112,000 from the Federal Highway Administration to offer workforce-development initiatives.
