Dear Neighbors
It used to be that things didn't get really busy around here until mid-September. That sure changed! Today BCCA meets in the afternoon at 3 PM and the BC School Board meeting is at 6 PM. On Tuesday the BC Kiwanis meet in the AM and Wednesday morning blood pressure checks are available in the BC Adult Center. Wednesday evening is the Al-Anon meeting and the Rimrock Farmers Market followed by a possible Friends of Beaver Creek Library meeting on Thursday. The Public Participation meeting for the proposed Primrose Peaks Estates is Saturday afternoon. A FREE smart devise help table is available at the BC Adult Center during Saturday morning.
On a sad note, we have lost another community volunteer and friend to many.
Sharon Casmier died on Wednesday, August 7, at age 76 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She lived in Lake Montezuma from February 2003 until September 2016. Sharon was active in the Beaver Creek Garden Club as an Arizona Master Gardener and the Lake Montezuma Women's Civic Club. The local Garden and Christmas Tours were enhanced by her participation and generous sharing of her beautiful home and landscaping. Funeral Mass will be held in Sumner, Washington on August 19. Her husband Richard P Casmier can be contacted at 12909 130th Ave Ct E, Puyallup, WA 98374 or

Our Beaver Creek businesses have been making some changes. Rask's Auto Service is now in McGuireville just west of the gas station. Curtis and Yolanda are located in the green two-bay building next to Lucas Hunt's A Tow Truck operation. Rask's phone number is the same, 567-7345, and A Tow Truck can be reached at 254-8145. Rimrock Automotive & Cycle Repair has opened at 3180 E Beaver Creek Rd managed by Alex Ferguson at 567-4174. Cricket's Sandwich Shop will have a new tenant. Date of opening is not yet announced, but word on Zuni Way is that long time owner (35 years) Kay Nye has shared her fabulous cinnamon roll recipe with the new chef.

Rimrock Rag Doll Crafters
from Sam Fisk w/photos
The Christmas House Project is off and running as of an hour ago. We have five (maybe six) ladies who will be making Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls as well as Amish Dolls for the Christmas House this year to be sold or donated at the shop. We are just donating them. Whatever happens after that is fine, whether the dolls are sold to raise funds for the project or given to families.
We need donations of stuffing....polyfluff, cotton or wool, leftover bags or new. We are excited to be helping the Beaver Creek Kiwanis raise Christmas funds for families and to contribute to our community. Flyers are up at the Kiwanis Clothes Closet and at the Lake Montezuma Post Office. So far we have received only one bag. We desperately need more......lots more! Thank you in advance to all who help us

Orientation for Volunteer Reading Tutors at Beaver Creek School
T
he Sedona Literacy Center
is recruiting volunteers (no experience necessary) to work with 2
nd
and 3
rd
grade students who need a little extra help catching up with their classmates in reading and writing at Beaver Creek School. This is one-on-one work, done in a group setting on Friday mornings. The program has been in operation since 1988 in the Sedona area and has the support of the school district.
We will hold an Orientation for interested persons on Sept. 5
th
from 10 AM to noon at the
Beaver Creek School District Board Room. While we need several new volunteers, we also always need substitutes for our regular tutors when they are sick or gone. Find out more about the history of the program and upcoming training and tutoring days at
www.sedonaliteracy.org
.
Contact Carolyn Fisher at
sedonaliteracy@yahoo.com
for more information if you can't attend the Orientation. Attending the orientation does not obligate you to participate. Please come see if this is something that you would enjoy doing.
