Bridging the Black/Jewish Divide: Finding Common Ground in the Fight Against Anti-Semitism and Racism with Guest Speaker
Beco Lichtman
January 28 (On Zoom)

Special Shabbat Service speaker!

There’s been a deeply disturbing upsurge in anti-Semitism in the United States and around the globe as we've just seen last week at Congregation Beth Israel in Texas. Simultaneously, we continue to witness the depth and pervasiveness of anti-Black racism in American society. As each group fights back, it becomes very clear: racism and anti-Semitism need not be separate struggles. How do we identify common ground? As a Black, gay Jew, Lichtman draws on these intersections to explore the unique histories, needs, and experiences of both the Jewish and Black communities that will lead us to heal and together combat patterns of antisemitism and racism.
Please visit for more information.

Brought to Sha’ar Zahav by our Racial Equity Group, Social Action Committee and L’Tarbut, our SZ group celebrating BIPOC, multiracial, and multiethnic identities.

The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness: A True Story
Tuesday, February 15, 7:00 - 8:00 pm on Zoom
The Beggar King and the Secret of Happiness is an altogether original true story about a storyteller who loses his voice and believes he's lost everything. An encounter with his old teacher shows him that, in fact, he's been given a great gift. Their meetings lead him on a journey into the timeless wisdom of ancient tales—a world of beggars and kings, monks and tigers, lost horses and buried treasures—and, ultimately, toward the secret of happiness. Read and come discuss. Contact for more info.
